About me and my therapy practice
After a long NHS career I am now working exclusively as a Therapist in private practice.
Research evidence suggests that the best outcomes from therapy rely mainly on the quality of the therapy relationship and when the therapist stays true to a therapeutic model. For this reason, I stay with what I know best which is Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) and EMDR ( Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) and also remain with the principle of a time limited approach so that therapy is an enabling process for the client.
Please see ACAT-me website and EMDR Association UK website for more information about these approaches.
I also have specialist expertise in treating sufferers of eating disorders having worked in a specialist NHS service for 13 years and can offer additional approaches to address the key symptoms in preparation for work to explore the underlying reasons for the development of the problem. I am not able to take clients whom I feel may be at significant clinical risk as a consequence of the eating disorder and who may require additional medical and specialist support.
I am also able to offer a briefer CAT intervention, usually 1-2 sessions called a personal reformulation which can be helpful for work performance and personal development.
My practice is based in the rural market town of Eccleshall which has a good range of amenities and free parking. It is easily accessible from the M6 and has good links with other major routes in the area.
My therapy room is accessed by a flight of stairs and may therefore not be suitable for those who have reduced mobility.
I take all possible steps to make my practice as Covid secure as I can. I am fully vaccinated and take regular lateral flow tests to protect my clients. I ensure that all contact areas are sanitised after each client and that there is adequate ventilation.
I request payment in advance of sessions by bank transfer or in session by card reader. I do offer a discounted rate for blocks of sessions paid in advance.
My first session
Therapy is not an easy process and requires a significant investment of time (and money in a private setting) and so I feel that it is important to offer prospective clients an opportunity to meet me and to hear about the way I work in person before committing to a therapeutic contract.
I therefore offer a free initial no obligation consultation of up to one hour either face to face or online as a first step.
If we feel that we can work together then I would usually recommend a longer assessment appointment where we can think in more detail about the best treatment plan for you going forward.
