Practice description

I work with couples, individuals, children /young people and families.

When working with children I like to meet with a parent or significant other at the assessment session to plan together the best way of supporting your child.

I also work as a Link counsellor with Barnardo's and have completed adoption training.

I am  a qualified supervisor able to provide individual and group supervision to qualified therapists , trainees and practitioners in schools and clinical settings.

My first session

The first session is an assessment session, an opportunity to consider if you are comfortable with my way of working and to discuss together the best way of gaining support.

The assessment session may include talking about past and present life events, feelings, emotions, relationships, ways of thinking and patterns of behaviour. Collecting information in this session will help me to gain a sense of you and the presenting problem and we can discuss together what you would like to gain from any ongoing sessions.

Talking about these things may take time and it is important that you feel comfortable with what you share, therefore it is not necessary for all things to be included in this session.

Some clients may just want to attend one session and others may want to attend ongoing sessions for as long as they are finding the therapy helpful.

About me and my therapy practice

I work as a supervisor offering supervision to trained counsellors and Trainee counsellors in Thirsk, York and Leeds. I offer flexible appointments to meet individual needs.

I offer an integrative model of therapy which means I am able to draw from a range of modalities including person centred, systemic, solution focused, CBT, systemic and relational.

Supervision supports the counsellor with their case work and aims to support the personal and professional development of the counsellor.

I specialise in supervising and facilitating the work of counsellors, practitioners, teachers and other professionals who work with children and young people in schools and private practice. I also facilitate reflective practice groups which supports counsellors and provides an opportunity to share best practice and network.

I consider the relationship between counsellor and supervisor to be of great importance and offer initial appointments where the process can be discussed further.
