Availability

I work online and have grown to love this way of providing counselling. Please contact me directly and hopefully we can find a time that suits you and your child. I currently have some daytime availability on Tuesday and Wednesday.. Please get in touch via the link here or on my website, or give me a call. Only I will listen to your message. Please make it clear if it is ok to call you back and suggest some times.

About me and my therapy practice

Are you looking for counselling for your child or teen? Are they anxious, worried or low in mood? Perhaps you struggle with their behaviour or want your relationship to be better? This is my specialist area - I help children, young people and parents resolve problems with their feelings and relationships. Parents often ring me, really concerned and wondering what to do for the best. If this is you, read on.....

I have extensive experience in schools, GP settings, NHS CAMHS (11 years) and in private practice. I also have many qualifications which you can read about on my website (link is above in red). I do appreciate that it can be daunting trying to find a therapist for your child and it is really important to find the right person so for this reason I offer a free introductory chat (up to 15 minutes) so we can get to know each other. And it doesn't commit you to work with me. Please get in touch.

Practice description

I help when children are experiencing difficulties with their feelings, behaviour and relationships. It is normal for children and young people to have challenges and worries as they grow up, but sometimes, for all sorts of reasons, it can be hard for them to sort these out without help. Parents and other adults are usually able to assist, but sometimes they need additional help too and they welcome the involvement of a professional like me.

It can sometimes be hard for children to agree to therapy, especially if they are anxious, and that can leave you (parents) feeling frustrated and helpless. I can still help by working with you instead. I often provide guidance to parents wanting to help their child.

I always offer you and your child these conditions:

  • confidentiality
  • empathy
  • no judgement
  • respect

Here are some of the issues I help with:

  • Anxiety
  • Low mood
  • When a child/teen is feeling very worried, angry, sad or confused and is struggling to express and manage these uncomfortable feelings
  • Troubled parent/child relationships and communication difficulties (e.g. negativity, non-compliance, conflict)
  • Parental divorce and separation
  • Bereavement and loss

I use a variety of therapies to help and adapt the approach I use to suit each child/young person/parent/family. For example with older teenagers I might use a CBT approach whereas with a young child I would like to use lots of games and activities. I might start with a solution focussed approach. If you'd like to know more, I can tell you about these approaches when we meet and when I have an idea what is going on for your child.

My first session

We will probably have already spoken during the free introductory chat I offer. This is an opportunity for you to fill me in a little, discuss counselling and also get to know me. You are welcome to ask questions, and I might ask you a few too. Next, we arrange an appointment and this is the beginning of our work together. I will do all I can to put you and/or your child at ease. I will ask some questions and we will talk together about what has brought you to therapy.

I work online, (Zoom appointments) and I have grown to love this way of providing therapy. The benefits of using technology to connect means you can have therapy wherever you can create a confidential space, and can be somewhere that is comfortable for you. Also, there is the convenience of not having to travel.
