Availability

I offer counselling on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

It may be possible to arrange morning, lunchtime or afternoon sessions.

All sessions take place online. However, at present, I am only taking on new clients based in the UK.

*My counselling practice is currently full. If you would like me to let you know when a space opens up, please be in touch.

My office hours are typically between 9.30am and 3.30pm Tuesday to Thursday.

Please bear in mind that I do not always pick up messages outside these times, and that it may take me time to reply.

About me and my therapy practice

I aim to build a trusting relationship where you feel able to bring the things that are important to you.

These may be present or past issues that are affecting you; the need to navigate a significant change or challenge; or a desire to open up new possibilities, or find new levels of wellbeing or fulfilment.

Each person is different, and I will be looking to help us find ways of working together that are helpful and empowering for you. I believe that, somewhere within each of us, are the resources and wisdom we need to meet what life brings. Having a compassionate person alongside us can sometimes make a big difference to how fully we can access those parts of ourselves.

I will support you to explore the things that matter to you, and I may encourage you to give attention to what you feel as you do. Including what you are experiencing in the moment can help you stay present with what you are bringing, and add valuable dimensions to your work. It is also important in helping us to recognise the kind and pace of exploration that is right for you at different times. This kind of sensitivity can make it safer for you to include both tender and strong sides of yourself. It can also help you build comfort with aspects of your experience you have found difficult. And I believe that can help you find greater stability, freedom, power and choice.

I will strive to welcome you exactly as you are. When done with the right kind of care, it can be a big relief to share the aspects of your experience, and to show the parts of yourself, that you need to. And, as I do my best to reflect my understanding of your experience, in a non-judgemental, respectful and empathic way, I hope to help you get to know yourself better. Bringing awareness to your experience in these kinds of ways can help open things up enough for you to see what is happening in new ways, and can help you discover ways forward that are fully rooted in who, and how, you really are.

Practice description

I am able to work with people with a very wide range of needs, but my areas of special interest include working with:

  • Supporting people to grow their self-connection, self-acceptance, self-trust, self-care, freedom, empowerment and authenticity.
  • Supporting people to liberate themselves from the stories they hold about life that no longer serve them.
  • Peoples’ relationship with the things they have associated with shame, and felt they needed to hide.
  • Peoples’ struggles with harder to accept feelings, including things like anger, fury, rage, resentment and disgust: Helping them get to know the needs behind their emotional responses, and find healthy ways to manage and express them.
  • Relationships of all kinds, including the conflicts and challenges that arise within them. (I offer this within one-to-one, rather than relationship, counselling.)
  • Women’s issues.
  • Sexual issues.

My core counselling training was a Diploma in Counselling with the University of the West of England. This course emphasised the importance of the relationship between counsellor and client to the client’s experience of counselling, and drew on both person-centred and psychodynamic approaches.

I also have in-depth training in holding movement-based groups (Professional Training in Movement Medicine with the School of Movement Medicine) and this experience of working in an embodied way influences my approach, as does my long-term informal engagement with Non Violent Communication (NVC).

My first session

I offer a free introductory session, with no expectation that you will continue counselling with me beyond that.

This session is an opportunity for us to meet, and to find out enough about each other, and about how it feels to relate, to help us decide whether I could be the right counsellor for you.

The introductory session can take from one hour to ninety minutes. There will be space for you to share something about what’s bringing you to counselling and what you’re looking for from it. I will also take time to ask you some questions about yourself, both to help me see whether I can offer you what you need, and so that I have some helpful background information if you do choose to continue. We will also have the chance to look at how we might work together, and whether or how you would like to take things forward.

If it feels right for you to continue counselling with me, we will agree an initial number of sessions, typically six. During that time we will review how things are going, and see whether you want to complete the counselling there, to agree another series of sessions, or to continue on an ongoing basis.

Sessions are normally arranged for fifty minutes, at the same time each week.

If you would like to explore the possibility of counselling with me, please leave a message, and I will email you to arrange an introductory session.
