About me and my therapy practice

MY THERAPY PRACTICE & ME: COUPLES THERAPY involves exploring the relationship itself, rather than the individual separately. Each partner can consider what they have heard, beyond focusing on what they are going to say, with time & space to share feelings & emotions. I became a ‘Couples Therapist’ in 1998 remaining in continuous counselling practice; working & building therapeutic relationships with genuine valuing regard. I work with couples as they explore their relationship, in therapy together; or individually, & for this to happen I provide a safe, confidential, private setting. I also provide counselling for individuals which, is not necessarily relationship based. Couples therapy is beneficial for any kind of relationship. Many things impact - transitions & loss, stress, finances, parenting, sex, infidelity, conflict, emotional distance, health-issues, in-laws, infertility. The couple may decide to focus on a specific problem or come along to consider their relationship in a ‘check-up’ kind of way-to touch base, improve intimacy & to consider how things are going between them. Couples therapy involves talking & listening to each other. Each partner can gain insight into the dynamics of their relationship & reach shared understanding about their interactions, what their roles are within the relationship; what decisions/changes are to be made, discuss how they communicate, consider coping mechanisms, behavioural changes & develop a way forward. SUBSTANCE MISUSE-2008-2018, as counsellor supervisor & counsellor, I worked within an organisation that provides treatment & support towards adults experiencing drug/alcohol dependency, working towards recovery. If you are in recovery from substance use addiction, & have wider support in place connected to this, linked to after care, I can provide counselling support. I also hold many years’ experience as a trainer & I am a qualified, counsellor supervisor.
