About me and my therapy practice

I offer telephone and online counselling (via zoom).

I am here to listen and to help you through any difficulties you may be having. I am experienced both as a counsellor and in life. I come from an emergency services background and I am skilled in dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction and those times in general when life seems overwhelming.

I have a post graduate diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy (level 7), I am fully insured and a registered member of the BACP. As a counsellor, I have worked extensively with emergency service personnel, with charities involved in drug and alcohol addiction and privately with clients presenting with a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, feeling overwhelmed, use of alcohol or drugs, bereavement, trauma, sexual identity, relationships, obsessive compulsive disorder and more.

I generally work office hours but can offer weekend and evening appointments by arrangement. The first counselling session serves as an introduction and is offered at a reduced rate to enable you to decide whether you are comfortable proceeding with counselling and understand what it entails. Sessions are usually an hour long and the pace and number of sessions is dictated by you. Confidentiality and sensitivity are standard as is my commitment to helping you to make sense of the issue that is affecting your life.

Practice description

There are times in everyone’s life when things seem too much or a nagging issue just won’t go away; You may be locked in an unhelpful cycle of behaviour or struggling to make sense of relationships or negative thoughts, or a negative event from your past may be preying on your mind, affecting your well-being. Whatever your reason for thinking about counselling, I will offer a calm, non-judgmental, professional ear to help you make sense of everything and move your life forward.

I have over 25 years experience working within the emergency services and a wealth of counselling experience working for charities that have been dedicated to helping emergency service personnel or to helping those who are struggling with drug, alcohol and addiction issues. In private practice, I have worked to help people through a wide variety of situations such as anxiety, depression, bereavement, compulsive behaviour and stress. I believe that I approach counselling in a natural way which is friendly, practical, down to earth and with an appropriate sense of humour

I would be delighted to try and help you.

My first session

It is natural to be nervous when first undertaking counselling and the first session is both a mutual information gathering exercise and an opportunity to ‘break the ice’. I will ask for some basic personal information and explain the counselling process whilst covering the necessities of boundaries, confidentiality and data protection. We will discuss your reasons for coming to counselling and look to agree some shared goals to work on together. Importantly, you can ask any questions you may have about me, the counselling process and my way of working to ensure that you are completely comfortable, relaxed and happy to proceed.
