I offer my on-line sessions at these same times also, but I can be more flexible with these as I can also do them from home.

About me and my therapy practice

I am an experienced couples counsellor and psycho-sexual therapist. I work short term and long term with my clients - at the assessment session we can discuss what would be best for you.

I am fundamentally a psycho-dynamic therapist - this means that I believe that the past impacts on the present in powerful ways that we are not always aware of, and this is particularly true of couple relationships and choice of romantic partner.

In psycho-sexual therapy a more cognitive behavioural approach may be appropriate, and the same in true in the treatment of sex addiction and compulsivity which is an area where I have specialised in recent years.

Practice description

My office is a private room in a small business centre near the centre of Sudbury, Suffolk. My preference is to work face to face but since the Covid pandemic I have also been working via webcam ( Facetime , Skype) and by telephone. My office is fully Covid compliant, and large enough for social distancing.

I work with couples as well as individuals - as long as the difficulties stem from the relationship, then it is not necessary for both partners to attend.

I work with those wishing to improve and repair their relationships as well as those going through separation and divorce, or those who find relationships difficult.

Anyone can attend - married, unmarried, separated, divorced, any age (over 18), heterosexual and/or same sex - all are welcome!

My first session

The first session is an initial assessment to establish whether the type of counselling that I offer, and the issues that clients want help with are a good match.

I want to hear- ideally from both partners - what has happened that has brought them into counselling and what they are looking for. This leads to an exploration of their relationship and how they have been able to resolve differences together.

We then talk about what they are looking for - both in the type of counselling and the outcome, and then decide whether I might be the right person for them.

Obviously this is all highly confidential, and I ensure that my office is a safe space and a comfortable venue.

Typically sessions are 50-60 minutes, but at times they may be longer, especially in the first stages of exploration. I like to see on-going clients regularly , ideally weekly or fortnightly, at least to start with - towards the end, longer intervals may be appropriate.
