About me and my therapy practice
I am a counsellor/therapist with over 25 years’ experience in the public, educational and charitable sectors.
Deciding to come for counselling is often not an easy decision, but I hope to reassure you during our initial session about how it can help, and to work with you, at pace and level that you feel comfortable with. The experience of counselling offers you a supportive, non-judgmental space to explore your private and personal feelings, and thoughts - perhaps those you’ve never shared with anyone, or looked at, before. I aim to offer you that valuable space, and to explore with you, in a deeper way, the various aspects of your life and relationships. This may involve looking at some difficult or even painful memories from the past, or looking at the feelings that you are experiencing now and how they are affecting you and your relationships. We will work together and explore your feelings, with the aim of leading you towards a greater understanding of yourself, and your emotions and patterns.
I work with people with a variety of issues - relationship difficulties – both family and couple, people with low mood, low self-esteem, depression and/or anxiety, and many other various issues. It could be that your situation is less easily definable – or you're not quite sure how you're feeling, but you don't feel that your life, or relationships, are how they should be. Having a space where you can safely and freely explore who you are, without judgement, with someone you trust, can be very beneficial.
I work from a Client centred, or person centred perspective, but am also strongly influenced by psychodynamic theory. Depending on my clients’ needs, I may draw on other many theories or ways of working, such as CBT, psychosynthesis, solution-focused or systemic. During our first session together, we can discuss how I work, and how our sessions might look, so that you can make an informed choice about having counselling with me.
