About me and my therapy practice

A practicing person-centred therapist since 2003, I have worked in community and youth agency settings, as a senior school counsellor, in private practice, run multiple personal development workshops, worked for the NHS as part of their mental health and wellbeing team, and more recently as a tutor for Iron Mill College in Exeter.

I believe each of us has our own way of being and experiences, therapy should be flexible to work with your needs; you should not have to fit the therapy, therapy should fit you.

I will always offer the core conditions of person-centred therapy – Empathy, Congruence, and Unconditional Positive Regard, yet I may blend that with therapies that suit your frame of reference and culture.I have a particular interest and additional experience working with neuro-diverse people.

For anyone not familiar with this description it covers people who are diagnosed on, or suspect they are on, the Autistic spectrum (AS). That would include such things as ADHD, Dyslexia and OCD, all of which run in my family.

In my role withing the NHS I have supported many adults discovering they are neuro-diverse, and parents coping with children on the spectrum.

Practice description

I work with individuals from 14yrs upwards and couples, as in any two people in a relationship, not necessarily partners.

Helping you to help yourself.

I hold a strong belief that positive change is possible for everyone. Often through empowering shifts in perception, that increase understanding using small manageable steps.

At first this is difficult, yet one manageable step makes a difference, two brave steps can start to create tangible change, and several steps can have you looking back and seeing how amazingly far you have progressed.

The first step often comes from a sense of desperation, yet when you reach out for help, believe me when I tell you I understand how difficult that first step is, be assured that I will respond to you with warmth and respect, offering confidentiality and acceptance.

Compassion, kindness, and my desire to help you, are the corner stones of my practice. My willingness to build a trusting relationship with you is paramount to your healing process.

To be as flexible as possible I offer a wide range of therapeutic sessions that you can mix and match according to your needs.Home visits are available during daylight hours, which vary according to the time of year.

Please see my website for a detailed map of my catchment area. To summarise, I cover Exeter, Crediton, Tiverton and most small villages in and around these areas.

If in doubt, please do contact me to enquire.

As well as home visits I offer online or phone therapy sessions. To have these sessions with a local therapist is very sensible as local knowledge can give environmental context to your therapy. I can also recommend local resources and additional support.

About me and my therapy practice

I am a trained person-centered therapist, over time I have come to consider myself Integrative as I combine more than one modality in therapy.  People are diverse and I believe therapy should be too; people should not have to fit the therapy, therapy should fit the person.

I'm very happy to incorporate creative therapy if you like to express your thoughts and feelings in words, photos, drawings, sculpture etc...

Practice description

A therapist since 2004, I hold a strong belief that positive change is possible through small shifts in your perception.

Stress, anxiety, and low mood close-down our ability to think straight; ‘to see the wood for the trees’. Often, we don’t realise the strain we are under until it becomes crippling.

For myself in such times I have struggled to trust my vulnerability with anyone. Therapy, described as a process, starts with our decision however wary, to trust another, to reach out for help when often we are feeling at our most disempowered.

I will do is use all of my extensive training to hold all that you choose to share in a confidential, safe, and boundaried way. My aim is always to empower and support you.

Compassion, kindness, and caring what happens to you, are the corner stones of my practice. My desire to build a trusting relationship with you is paramount to your process and the small shifts in perceptions you will make from it.

Light bulb moments of realisation through understanding yourself and your relationships help to lift the darkness, one shade at a time.

If I am your therapist, I make an emotional commitment to your process, your journey, your recovery. I invite you to trust my professional integrity, my life experiences, and my deep desire to lift you up when you don’t feel you have the energy or the will to stand alone.

Choosing an online or phone therapist that’s local to you makes sense, it helps when the person you’re talking to knows your environment, local resources, hospitals, and knows support groups to recommend.

Therapy comes with no guaranteed outcomes, but as your therapist I can guarantee my care and commit to your process and improved wellbeing.
