About me and my therapy practice

Walking through the therapy door is possibly one of the bravest and positive steps that you can take into seeking help to deal with and overcome issues that are causing emotional pain or making you feel uncomfortable. Counselling can provide a safe, confidential, non-judgmental and regular space for you to talk and explore difficult feelings. My role is not to offer advice or solutions but to listen, empathise, encourage and empower you to make self-imposed decisions and positive change.

Human beings are unique and not all therapy approaches suit all people. I have been trained to use an integrative approach allowing me to tailor sessions to suit your specific needs and circumstances. Warmth, genuineness and honesty are at the heart of my approach.

People seek counselling for a variety of reasons, and it is "okay not to be okay sometimes". If you have not had counselling before or have had a poor experience in the past, you may have mixed feelings or feel nervous about attending therapy. Warmth, genuineness and honesty are at the heart of my approach. The working relationship is key to a successful counselling experience and is one built around trust, respect and mutual understanding without fear of judgment, rejection or repercussion.

Therapy is a very personal process that can evoke painful memories and intense emotions, therefore, I will be guided by you. As we embark on anything new or something which we may expect to be negative, we will discuss any natural anxieties that emerge and just take things one step at a time. I offer sessions in a confidential, peaceful and accepting environment in which sensitive issues, psychological concerns and stressful life events can be explored safely.

Whilst I may not have a magic wand, I can offer a "helping hand" to guide you through distressing times and accompany you on your journey of self-discovery.

Practice description

I am a Qualified Counsellor and a Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I am also an Accredited Member of the National Counselling Society and an Accredited Member of The Foundation for Infant Loss.

My voluntary work for two charitable organisations that specialise in the fields of bereavement (pre and post loss) and mental health issues allows me to provide counselling support to adults and young people within the community. I specialise in working with people with hidden disabilities and chronic pain conditions, particularly Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome and Fibromyalgia.

I have experience in a broad range of psychological difficulties and I actively seek Continued Professional Development as well as training opportunities to enhance knowledge and therapeutic skill set.

I work with adults and young people. Enquiries and referrals can be taken for anyone over the age of 16 years.

COVID Update:

For the foreseeable future, I will be offering remote counselling only via telephone or Zoom only. To take into consideration the financial impact of the pandemic, I do offer some low-cost appointments for those experiencing financial difficulty to provide an affordable and accessible service. Please enquire for my current availability.

My first session

Initial assessments take place over the telephone or via zoom or in person. Telephone consultations are free of charge for up to 20 minutes.
