About me and my therapy practice
I am an experienced, BACP accredited counsellor who offers sessions with individuals and couples in three locations in Bristol & North Somerset.
As well as running a private practice, I have been employed since 1997 working in various settings including Bristol University Student Counselling, Bristol City Council Occupational Health, A Local Independent School and for Avon & Somerset Constabulary. I gained my initial Counselling Diploma in 1996 after studying Psychology at Brunel with my placement being at Bristol Crown Court which I continued working for 3 years.
My initial interest in Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (a form of CBT) for treating Anxiety, Depression and Pain disorders took me to the Albert Ellis institute in New York which fuelled a passion for helping people understand the link between our Brain, Our thoughts and its impact on how we feel. When I work with clients collaboratively to grasp this concept I see huge improvements.
In addition to my Counselling work I also set up a separate business whilst studying for a MSc in CBT in 2003/4 which is successful and still operating today.
I receive regular continuous development training and in 2015 gained a further Diploma in both Cognitive Behaviour Therapy & Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy as well as training at Bath University for the use of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Pain.
Despite working with an active directive approach I feel the Client Counsellor relationship central to any improvement.
Counselling with me offers a Professional, safe, neutral and confidential space where you can talk openly about your thoughts and feelings, without fear of judgement or criticism. We will work collaboratively to resolve or manage your problems. My aim is to work with you to help you understand your own responses to triggers and develop your own skills and tools to help you become your own Therapist in 6 sessions or less.
Some of the specific issues I have worked with include depression, anxiety, stress, lack of confidence and low self esteem, struggles with personal identity, Pain, abuse, trauma, loss, bereavement, relationship difficulties, work and family issues, long term health conditions, parenting, life transitions and pregnancy related issues and loss. Whatever, you bring, I offer professional support to promote your emotional wellbeing.
I am fully Advanced DBS checked which is available to view.
I work from Clifton, Weston Super mare and in Tickenham, North Somerset. All venues offer a peaceful location and space with plenty of parking.
