About me and my therapy practice
I specialise in panic attacks, generalised anxiety disorder, low self-esteem, stress, depression, guilt, shame, existential crises, and identity. I adapt my practice to each client's needs, incorporating different techniques including, CBT, mindfulness, autogenic training techniques, creative therapy, and ecotherapy.
I worked for the NHS through the pandemic and have extensive experience working with short-term (a minimum of 6 sessions) and long-term (open-ended) therapy with people from a variety of cultural backgrounds.
My priority is for all of my clients to feel safe, grounded and comfortable, and to give them what they need through the therapy in order for them to start feeling better, be it long-term or short-term sessions.
I transitioned from journalist to therapist after three years of working in the city. I have a clear understanding of the impact stress and anxiety can have on the body and mind and the life-changing benefits of therapy.
Through my work in multiple different job settings, I have experience working with trauma, PTSD, suicidal thoughts, dissociative disorders, relationship and sex, personality disorders, physical and emotional abuse, self-harm and eating disorders, bereavement, OCD, addiction, anxiety, depression, life transitions, anger, low self-esteem, loneliness, and a range of other issues. I have experience working with multi-disciplinary teams collaborating with GPs, teachers, pastoral care, social services, and physiatrists.
As well as working with adults of all ages I have worked in-depth with young adults, adolescents, and children. I am currently working as a school counsellor at a private school in South London part-time. I am only able to take on clients over the age of 17 years old within my private practice.
I am the co-founder of The Kapok Therapy Clinic. Within my practice, I offer online, face-to-face, short-term and long-term therapy and I have had extensive training in all four of those areas.
If you would like face-to-face sessions I will be seeing clients at my home in South London, in a self-contained space at the bottom of my garden. My practice is cozy, light-filled, and completely private. I am practicing within the COVID-19 guidelines, keeping the space clean and safe for clients. There will be water provided. If you are seeing me online I am practicing from the same space.
My first session
After a free 15-minute phone consultation with me, I will set up the first session online/face-to-face. The first session is a 50-minute assessment which is a general chat about why you have come to see me, and what you feel you need help with. This will allow me to develop an idea of how I might be able to help with your presenting issues. By the end of the assessment, I will make a recommendation on an initial number of sessions if you wish to begin a course of therapy.
But more than anything the first session is to see if after meeting me you would like to work with me. I know how important it is to find the right therapist. So if after the first session you think 'this is not for me' then, of course, you are not obliged to come back. You can stop sessions at any time and you are not tied in to anything. You will be sent or given a confidentiality contract to read through and sign if after your first session you would like to continue with therapy. This contract is to assure you that everything discussed is strictly confidential. The contract will also include information on payment etc.
