About me and my therapy practice
A therapist for more than 25 years, I aim to connect to clients with empathy and understanding in a non-judgemental way, allowing them to overcome blocks to growth and achieve their goals.
You may be feeing low or depressed, worried or anxious, or you may be suffering from grief due to a bereavement or loss of some kind. Perhaps you’re struggling with a relationship with your partner, at your job or in your family and can’t work out how to improve it. Maybe you feel unsettled and can’t put your finger on why – to borrow a phrase from the Oasis song Wonderwall, “the fire in your heart is out” – and you’re seeking guidance to help you re-ignite your spark or find your purpose in life.
I’ve helped clients overcome problems in the above areas and more. In addition, my special interests are grief and loss, mediating life transitions such as midlife crises, empty nest syndrome and the menopause, and helping clients negotiate the identity and family issues thrown up by unexpected DNA test results.
My goal is to create a safe place where you can discuss your problems confidentially. Together, we can agree on a way forward and I will suggest therapeutic tools from the range at my disposal to tailor counselling to your individual needs.
I’m not a passive therapist who echoes what you say back to you and nods from time to time. Rather, I work actively with you, striving to really listen to you and help you make sense of your problems. Part of this involves looking at unhelpful patterns in your thoughts and behaviour you may not have noticed and helping you use this new awareness to make beneficial changes to your life.
During my career as a London-based counsellor I have been fortunate to work with a richly diverse client group in terms of age, race, culture and sexuality and I am passionately committed to providing culturally sensitive counselling.
Originally from Manchester, I consider myself to be a down-to-earth yet kindly therapist. I first began working with clients in 1994, qualifying with a Master’s degree in Counselling & Psychotherapy in 1999. My first degree is in Psychology (1985) and I’ve held posts as a counsellor or psychotherapist at various London institutions.
My fee is £65 for a 60-minute session. I offer a limited number of concessionary places - please contact me for details.
My first session
If my words strike a chord with you, do give me a call or drop me an email. I offer a free, 20-minute consultation via phone or Zoom so you can see if you feel comfortable speaking to me and I can find out more about what you’re seeking help with.
While I’m experienced at both short- and long-term work, on average, clients see me for between four and 12 sessions, although some continue weekly sessions for up to a year.
