About me and my therapy practice
If you are seeking support for any emotional, social or behavioural issue relating to those aged 3-18, I would love to hear from you. I use the following approaches;
Play Therapy/Creative Therapy are developmentally sensitive ways of supporting children and young people. Through therapeutic play a child is able to identify, work through and resolve emotional conflicts that may be too painful or difficult to express verbally, or that may be outside of conscious awareness. Sessions are predominately child led, meaning they have autonomy over the content and pace of their therapy, enabling them to use the time in a way that is most meaningful to them. I will take on an active role in the session, being right alongside your child in the play, interacting as appropriate to facilitate therapeutic content, supporting them to gain insights and understanding into their inner worlds, experiences and emotions.
In Filial Therapy a care-giver will be coached to conduct weekly play sessions with their child, becoming the agent for therapeutic change. A powerful approach with long lasting impact on both parent and child. Leading to securer attachments with a primary care-giver, meaning everyday difficulties are more likely to be shared with and supported by them in the future. In turn, a care-giver will likely notice a deeper emotional understanding of their child, as well as developing skills which can be used throughout their parenting, helping to emotionally support a child in the future.
Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy is widely used with families that have adopted or fostered children, who may have experienced neglect and abuse in their early years. Children can be traumatised by these experiences and find it difficult to feel safe and secure within their new families. Parents and children would be required to actively engage in therapeutic sessions.
Based in Whalley Range, if you are unable to attend my venue for face to face sessions via video call may be possible for older children and some parent sessions.
My first session
Contact me for an informal chat to discuss your needs, if we feel that what I offer is appropriate an initial assessment session will be offered. It will last 50-60 minutes and usually involve both parent and child. Some short assessments will be completed and there will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions and get a feel for how I work. After this I will put together a recommended plan of therapeutic support for your consideration.
If you choose to go ahead with sessions they will last 45 minutes and I recommend they take place at regular weekly intervals.
