About me and my therapy practice

**Skype and Zoom online sessions available **

I am a compassionate Counsellor, with a holistic approach. I completely understand how difficult it can be to reach out for help in challenging times. I have, however, had many years experience in supporting people of all ages, cultures and backgrounds. I believe that everyone should be treated as an individual, looking at the best, personal approach for you. I started my professional life as a Nurse and then moved into social care, to become a Senior Domestic Abuse / Homelessness Project Worker. I have worked with people who have had a wide range of physical / mental health and social care issues for almost 30 years.    As a therapist, I specialise in bereavement and end of life issues, as well as working with, autism / ASD, anxiety and panic attacks, domestic abuse, trauma, sexual abuse, chronic illness, depression / mental health issues, spiritual / life meaning, family and relationship issues. I also have many years of experience of working with spirituality and issues related to life-purpose.   I use an individualised, integrative approach to counselling, which means that I assess your own personal needs to find the right form of counselling for you. My specialist approaches include: Person-Centred / Humanistic, Transpersonal, Existential, Gestalt Therapy and CBT. I strongly believe that every human being is unique, with different needs that need to be heard compassionately and without judgement. I also provide counselling and emotional support for various organisations such as YMCA, SSAFA, Anglia Care and Victim Support, as well as some other private companies. I previously worked with the NHS, Woman's Trust and Women's Aid, St Josephs's Hospice (London), Marie Curie and Macmillan. Also Housing Associations and DV projects. I have my own private practice and I am fully insured with a current DBS clearance certificate.

My first session

Your first session with me will last for 1 hour, but could be extended to up to 1½ hours if needed for the initial assessment.

To begin with, during this session, I will do my best to help you feel secure and comfortable, so that you are able to talk openly and without judgement, about anything you would like to share. There is no pressure whatsoever to talk about anything you are not comfortable with.

We will discuss together the best way forward for your individual needs, how you feel you would like to proceed (i.e., booking future sessions or not, how often etc.......there is no pressure to do this though, it is completely your own choice and at your own pace).

We will also talk about best ways to make counselling as successful for you as possible, including working together, commitment to sessions (if that's what you choose to do), cancellations / changes to appointment (notice needed) and payment for sessions. There will also be an opportunity to ask any questions you have about any aspects of my skills or the counselling sessions.

If you have any queries prior to your first session, please feel free to contact me and I am more than happy to discuss these with you.

About me and my therapy practice

I have had over 15 years experience as a Supervisor / Clinical Supervisor within my health, social care and training roles, I also work as a Counselling Tutor in Adult Education, and I am currently working towards my Counselling & Psychotherapy Supervision qualification, as follows:

Level 7 Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy Supervision

(finishing in January 2021)

I work compassionately and empathically with both students and qualified therapists in a pluralistic / integrative and holistic approach to therapy. I am passionate about therapy that looks at the whole person, working in a totally individualistic way, with each client and supervisee.  I have extensive experience in working with humanistic, existential, transpersonal, gestalt, CBT and creative / art therapies, which all offer a wide spectrum of theories and tools that benefit clients holistically.

My first session

The initial session will be a chance for you to find out if you feel I am the right person to provide your supervision for you. It is an opportunity for us to find out about each other, our training backgrounds, working approaches and therapeutic interests.

I have a relaxed, empathetic and supportive  approach to my supervisees, and like to encourage you to be able to speak openly about both personal and professional issues related to your client work. I use my intuitive skills and insight to help separate any transferential issues, in order to see clearly where support is needed.

This session will also offer the opportunity for you to ask questions and share expectations to create the best possible supervision journey.
