About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I am Gillian. I am a qualified Person-Centred Counsellor, I offer counselling and psychotherapy both via face to face and telephone, working from private practices in Clitheroe, Barrowford, Nelson and Crawshawbooth, Rossendale in Lancashire.

I have  20 years experience working in the field of mental health and emotional support and wellbeing supporting adults and young adults. I have worked with individuals with a range of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, bereavement and loss, stress, relationship issues, Bi-polar disorder, Asperger's syndrome, sexual abuse, BPD (Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder) and suicidal thoughts. At times life events may feel overwhelming and it often helps to talk to someone for support who is not emotionally attached to you. My aim is to help clients explore their issues and any areas of their lives they may find difficult in therapy, in a safe, supportive environment. I am passionate about supporting people in a calm, confidential space to feel heard and understood. I offer core conditions of empathy, congruence and without judgment to create change. I want to help you feel more fulfilled in life.

Currently there is a lot of anxiety triggered by all the adjustments we have had to make and lack of contact with our family and friends, worries about our finances and uncertainty about our futures. As a result many people are experiencing loneliness right now; supporting your emotional well-being and exploring this with someone impartial can help.

It is natural to feel anxious before starting any therapy, especially for the first time and you may be feeling daunted. As a registered therapist it is a requirement to have had counselling sessions historically and I understand that you may have reservations or queries, hence I offer a free 15 minutes telephone consultation prior to booking, if you prefer, and advise to have one session, without committing to see if it feels a right fit for you.
