About me and my therapy practice
I know that it can be a daunting and scary time when we find ourselves having to look for a counsellor. It can appear to be like sticking a pin in a map. I believe that the foundation of any counselling is the working relationship. This enables exploration and understanding of the issues which prompted your search of the BACP counselling directory.
I have worked as a counsellor since qualifying in 1999, providing counselling and supervision in the Durham area. My initial training was in the Humanistic Integrative model, (an approach that systematically considers the whole person - mind, body and spirit). since qualifying I have extensively widened by knowledge and experience, to include EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing - a treatment designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories), sand and art therapy and working with the inner child and the subconscious. I understand the we as humans, are all individuals and need the counselling experience to be individually tailor-made to gain the most from our sessions.
I have mainly worked providing counselling to the NHS in GP practices, helping clients heal from a wide range of issues. I have also worked with ASCA (Adult Survivors of Childhood Abuse) and MIND mental health charity, alongside my private work.
I have rooms available in Sacriston (wheelchair access) and Chester-le-Street at present.
I have had feedback throughout the years from clients and colleagues that I have integrity and a down to earth, calm style of working. I believe in making the counselling experience as comfortable as possible, even when exploring difficult issues and yes, dare I say, sometimes even enjoyable.
I look forward to welcoming you.
I have a small purpose designed, private room in a building I share with another professional person. There is free on street parking and toilet facilities along with a warm welcome and tea or coffee on offer.
