About me and my therapy practice
My approach to Counselling is person-centred and integrative – this means that I am guided by your concerns and your goals for therapy and draw from a range of models which are most appropriate for you.
Most importantly, I offer a therapeutic relationship within which you can work through difficulties, understand yourself better, and enliven your relationship with yourself and others.
I utilise creative, non-verbal ways of working such as imagery, Sand tray, art materials, stories and Mindfulness.
I am interested in how body experiences such as symptoms, sexuality, body image, sensations, posture and movement can communicate vital information and, where appropriate, I work with non-touch interventions to help integrate ‘embodied knowledge’ into the healing process.
It is always a client’s choice to work in ways that they are comfortable with and find useful.
Together we will seek out what you need in order to find new clarity, empowerment and the possibility of joy.
Practice description
I work from therapy rooms in Alnwick, Longframlington (accessible) and Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
I also welcome enquiries from people who would prefer to access counselling exclusively through telephone or video call.
My first session
I offer an initial appointment which gives you the opportunity to meet me, ask any questions and tell me a bit about your concerns and the background to them. I will explain what to expect from working with me and provide you with a clear, written agreement. We can see if I am the right Counsellor for you at this time.
In deciding to proceed, we would confirm a weekly appointment and an appropriate timescale - sometimes 4-6 weeks are enough to give you the tools to move forward, at other times, we would have an open ended agreement with regular reviews, allowing longer term work – this may be necessary to address deeper trauma, losses that have had a profound impact, or deeply held patterns which are no longer working for you.
I am happy to discuss any initial questions you may have about counselling, on the phone, ahead of your making an appointment. I endeavour to reply to messages within 24 hours.
I trained with the Northern Guild of Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am a member of the BACP and practice within their ethical framework.
