About me and my therapy practice

I have been in practice as a counsellor since 2010 working in several different specialist agencies, as well as in general community counselling. I have gained experience of working with people with a wide variety of difficulties & life experiences including women in a domestic violence agency, young people (age 13 to 25) in a school & community youth centres, and long term work with adult mental health service users. I don't like to think in terms of working with specific specialist 'issues' but rather to see each person as a unique individual. For the purpose of this brief introduction I would say that I am experienced in working with people who have a variety of trauma & abuse related symptoms including hearing voices and dissociative episodes. My approach to counselling is about working together to develop a relationship where you, as a client, can feel safe enough to explore your thoughts, feelings and concerns without judgement. I might offer ideas, or signpost to other services, however I will not tell you what to do or attempt to resolve your problems for you. I would work to respect and understand you as you are, with whatever you choose to talk about/bring. I believe that given this safe & supportive space, environment and relationship that you have the means within yourself to find your own solutions, way forward, and healing.
