About me and my therapy practice

I am a Fully Qualified Integrative Counsellor that has been working in Private Practice since 2011. Since gaining my qualification I have continued my professional development and have qualified and specialised in many areas of counselling, psychotherapy and hypnotherapy.

My other areas of expertise comes from working within the field of and life experience itself, and include substance misuse and addictions, learning disabilities, domestic violence, pain and chronic fatigue, life-limiting illness, and much more.

I have extensive knowledge around fibromyalgia, musculoskeletal and arthritic diseases as well as other pain and fatigue conditions. I offer counselling/coaching sessions that can help people gain a better understanding and management skills for a life worth living.

I also have an Advanced Diploma in Mindfulness. Mindfulness can be practiced in many forms. I have my own unique ways of introducing this so that it can be weaved into everyday life, so that it can be used even in a working environment. Using mindfulness has changed my life in terms of fibromyalgia and stress management enabling me live a fulfilling less painful and fatigued life. From this I share my knowledge and add this into my counselling sessions where required. I call this a plug in therapy.

Specialist Area

I also work with Personality Disorders and I am fully Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Trained.

Practice description

Private Practice in Counselling/Psychotherapy and Hypnosis.

I run my Private Practice from my own Therapy Room in Brent Knoll Somerset.  It is set in a semi rural location that provides beautiful scenery and offers lots of places to walk and relax.

My first session

Every therapist has their own way of beginning therapy. I may start by talking about what will happen in your therapy or I may begin straightaway by asking you what is troubling you. Either way is fine, but there are a few things your first session must cover:

As your therapist I will spend a few minutes introducing myself. If you’re not sure whether to call me by my first name or to be more formal, just do what you feel most comfortable with. If you feel I'm being too informal in the way I address you, you should say so.

I may start by taking a history of the troubles you are experiencing. I might ask you to complete some forms, or go through information I have received about you, such as a letter from your GP. I may just ask you to ‘tell your story’. Whatever format the assessment takes, you should feel you have the opportunity to tell me about the issues that are troubling you.

I will agree the terms, or contract with you, on how I will provide my services.

I will discuss with you the number and frequency of sessions you will have and how any fees will be paid. I will also explain what happens if you miss a session or are away on holida

I will explain how I will protect your confidentiality and privacy. I will also tell you of any situations when I may be required to disclose information about you. I will usually take notes in the sessions in some way for my own professional use. I will tell you how I will do this.

During the first session, or at any time during your therapy, you can ask me anything you want to know about my qualifications and experience. You can also ask me about your therapy and question anything you don't understand. I will encourage you to do this.

Your relationship with me is very important. To get the best out of the process it’s important that you have confidence in me. Trust your instinct and if you’re unsure about anything then please feel free to talk to me about this.

Supervision is an important part of the journey in your counselling and psychotherapy career. It helps to keep yourself and your clients safe when working through difficult issues or supports you through other aspects of being a counsellor, whether this is working in private practice or in an organisational settings.

I have been a qualified counsellor & psychotherapist for nearly 10 years working from my own Private Practice in Somerset working with adults, children and young people, where I offer a wide range of therapies.

my fees for Supervision via ZOOM are £70 for an hour and half and I offer a reduced rate of £25 for 45 minutes for trainee counsellors based on the BACP fortnightly guidance for students.
