About me and my therapy practice
My approach is integrative - which means that the way we work together will include elements of different counselling and therapy modalities, depending on the nature of the problem and also on how you prefer to talk about it.
My personal aim will be to help you to understand and maybe resolve strong feelings or relationship dynamics that are sabotaging your joy and hope for the future. For couples, I will spend some time with each of you separately as well as working with you together to build mutual understanding and communication.
I work online using zoom, which gives a lot of flexibility in terms of our locations.
After an initial session (see below) we might agree to work towards a review after a certain number of sessions, or you might know early on that you would like either short-term or long-term therapy.
I trained with "Relate" (MA) which integrated Systemic and Psychodynamic modalities. Along the way in the 10 years since then, have I become more and more in awe of the complexity, dignity and resilience of the human spirit.
I am interested in the effectiveness of shorter term therapy where sessions are longer than the traditional 50 minutes, for example up to two hours and include a short comfort break. If you are interested in trying this approach we can explore possibilities.
Also, if you would like to try working in a small group or family context, do let me know and I may start a group if there is sufficient interest.
My first session
The first session might feel a little more structured than subsequent sessions as it is quite important that we are both able to understand enough about each other to see whether therapy is appropriate for your needs and whether you will feel comfortable working with me.
At the end of this (short - up to 30 minutes) session we can discuss how to move forward and hopefully, agree an initial plan.
