About me and my therapy practice

Hello, my name is Lori (Lorraine) Thackham and welcome to Out of the Blue Counselling. I offer face to face, online and telephone sessions and I work with adolescents, young people and adults.

I aim to provide an empathic, safe and confidential space for you to explore whatever is on your mind and help you identify your needs and how to move forward.

I am qualified as a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and use an integrative approach in my work.  This means I draw on more than one theory, which allows me to work in a flexible way with whatever it is a client wishes to focus on and explore through counselling.

I have experience of working as a Counsellor in Primary Care  and as an Assistant Clinical Lead.  Additionally, I have worked in Education as a Counsellor in a Secondary School.

Before qualifying as a Counsellor I worked in a Primary School as a Thrive Practitioner and Mindfulness Coach with children and adolescents.

Practice description

I am trained to work with clients who experience anxiety and depression and/or who have experience trauma in their lives.

I use an integrative model which incorporates Person Centred theory as the foundation for working with clients and draws on Gestalt, CBT, Transactional Analysis and Transpersonal theories to enable me to offer a holistic and flexible approach to help clients make sense of how they are feeling, make choices and move forward in their lives.

What this means is I work creatively with clients in a way that suits and feels right for them.  My approach is to build a trusting and honest relationship in a space that feels safe to enable you to explore how you are feeling and find meaning in what you are experiencing.  When you make connections between what is thought, felt in your body, emotions and your environment you can experience deeper understanding of yourself and a greater sense of well-being.

My first session

Because it is important for you to find the right counsellor for you, I offer an initial free (up to 1 hour) telephone session, which gives us the opportunity to discuss how counselling could work for you and for you to ask any questions you may have and if we decide to go ahead,  whether you want face to face, online video or telephone appointments.

I offer long and short term counselling and my charges are £40 for an hour, payable by bank transfer or cash at the start of the session.

Face to face sessions take place in a therapy room.

Online video sessions a carried out using the Zoom platform.
