About me and my therapy practice
I am an Integrative counsellor and fully qualified C.B.T. Therapist, with BACP Accredition and UKRCP. I work with my client's to enable them to overcome their difficulties within a confidential, non-judgemental and empathic environment.
What is counselling? Counselling is an environment where you can explore personal issues, problems and feeling in a secure, safe and confidential setting. It is about empathy, openness and respect. It is more than a listening ear; Counselling helps clients to look at their problems, to understand them and then with the counsellor’s support, find a way through, it may be a way of enabling choice, or of deciding on change or reducing confusion.
What issues do people bring to counselling? Bereavement, loss, anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, low mood, life crisis, relationship issues, suicidal feeling, sexual abuse, bullying, physical abuse, panic attacks, eating disorders and many more.
There are different types of counselling how do I know which to have? Yes there are, the main three are Person Centred, Psychodynamic and C.B.T. (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). I have trained in the above fields and offer two main types of counselling:-
How long will the counselling take?
This is very dependent on the nature of the issues, occasionally one session is sufficient, to the other end of the scale where long term work is necessary, but this can be discussed at the first consultation.
Integrative – This is a fusion of Person
Centred and Psychodynamic. I start from the premise that we all want to achieve our full potential, e.g. a rose with the right conditions (sunshine, fertile soil water etc) will grow and blossom, but a rose lacking these conditions will try and grow and be the best it can be in those conditions. Life’s journey is difficult! With many hurdles, but with counselling to help us overcome these difficulties, we look at the causes to enable us to find our own solutions.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy – This looks at our cognitive process, that is how we think.
It highlights the link between our thoughts, our feelings and our behaviour, and how this cycle contributes to the problems and difficulties in our lives. It focuses on the problems and difficulties we are facing now, and is a pro-active therapy. I also offer CBT based Mindfulness, which is excellent at helping with anxiety and depressionThe NICE guidelines recommend CBT for the treatment of
Depression and Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorders, Post Traumatic Stress Disorders.
