About me and my therapy practice

I qualified as a Person Centred Counsellor in 2014, since then I have undertaken formal additional training in Trauma Therapy, Perinatal Mood Disorder, Clinical Supervision and Mindfulness.

I offer a person centred service to individuals, a safe space to explore difficult emotions and feelings without fear of judgment. I have worked extensively with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, PTSD, complex PTSD, relationship difficulties and many other issues. However, clients often come to counselling not because they are experiencing any of the difficulties already mentioned, but because they have decisions to make regarding the direction their life is taking and want to use the counselling space to explore their decision making processes.

Prior to counselling I taught in colleges and universities, and laterally headed up a guidance service. Since qualifying  I have been employed in a local counselling charity which specialises in trauma,  I was Coordinator of a specialist perinatal project until recently. I was also employed for a year as a telephone counsellor for a large EAP, and therefore have extensive training and experience of working remotely with clients.  I have worked in private practice for the last 5 years.

I am a teaching member of the the Mindfulness Association and approved to deliver their Mindfulness Based Living Course. I am also a member of BAMBA (British Association of Mindfulness Based Approaches).

Practice description

I offer 121 counselling to individuals, clinical supervision to groups and individuals  and mindfulness training to groups. I am happy to take referrals from EAP providers or work directly with individuals. I am currently able to offer telephone counselling or online counselling using the application zoom. I am unable to offer face to face appointments at the moment.

My first session

In the first session I would normally ask clients for some background information regarding the main issues they would like to explore, current support networks, previous experience of counselling and relevant medical information. I would then invite clients to explore their hopes and expectations in counselling before coming to a mutual decision about whether to contract for a particular number of sessions.
