I work from Monday to Friday and can offer sessions during the daytime until early evening.
About me and my therapy practice
I have had many years of experience as a counsellor and a lifetime of interest and experience as a fellow human being. I am passionate about the work that I do and the humanistic approach to therapy that I use.
And what does a humanistic approach mean? The bottom line is that I believe that you are the expert on yourself. You might not feel like it right now, but you are. And my job and our work together is to help you uncover your own answers to whatever you are struggling with and to help you build your resources, so that you can be fully yourself and live a life that fulfils and nourishes you.
We are all unique and I am trained in a variety of models which means that I can draw on different approaches to help you. We can keep it structured and practical if that suits you or we can work creatively if that helps you. Or we can simply talk.
Our sessions will give you some time out of your daily life that is just for you. Time to just be or to explore, time to bring awareness to what's happening for you, to work out if what you're doing is what you really want to be doing, time to allow yourself to feel or think things through or figure out whatever it is that you need to figure out.
I will offer you a space that is safe (and part of our work may be to help you feel safe in the first place), a relationship that is non-judgemental and empathic, and whilst I am lead by you as the client and what you need, I may at times offer you psycho-education if that is helpful. Most of all, I think the relationship between us is key, so I would encourage you to talk to a few therapists before choosing who to work with.
I can offer support with many issues, but am particularly interested in how the body, mind and emotions affect each other and this is especially helpful with anxiety, stress and trauma. I have a background in bodywork and am a trained mindfulness teacher which I can bring into the work if you are interested.
I offer both long term and short term work and am happy to discuss this with you, as I am any aspect of how I work.
Although I usually offer face to face work, at the moment, I am only offering online or phone counselling.
My first session
I offer a free 20 minute initial consultation that will give us a chance to meet (online or by phone) and to talk about what you would like help with and what you would like to get from counselling.
There's no obligation to go any further after that, but if you decide that you would like to work with me, then I would usually suggest that we work together for as long as it is beneficial to you.
