About me and my therapy practice

Welcome to Shakti Psychotherapy,  'Shakti' represents 'strength and courage'. I believe that through the process of therapy you will work through some of the challenges currently affecting your mental health and emotional wellbeing. 


Whether you are anxious, feeling low in mood or depressed, or going through a bereavement or marriage breakdown I offer you a safe space to be able to work through the distress. 

I started my career working with loss and bereavement whilst qualifying as a counsellor.  I then started working in the NHS 14yrs ago. My passion for learning new ways of supporting clients took me on a journey to enhance my skills and I undertook the following training: 


  • Core training consists of Counselling, Cognitive Behaviour therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation reprocessing (EMDR) 
  • I am an accredited Counsellor (Bacp) and Cognitive Behaviour Therapist (Babcp) which means I have met the standards set out by the professional bodies.

As a result of my interest in trauma I trained in Eye movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) and Sensori motor psychotherapy- (Level 1).

Therapy is about creating a safe therapeutic connection where we are able to

  •  Identify the main issues affecting you now
  • Be open and honest with ourselves, to then feel safe in expressing thoughts and feelings
  • To be able to self reflect and be open to learning and developing new ways of managing unhelpful thoughts and distress.




Practice description

As a Cognitive Behaviour therapist (CBT) therapy follows a treatment protocol that is adapted to individual presentations and is targeted at mild moderate symptoms of depression/anxiety, specifically targeting the following issues;

- Depression

- Anxiety

- Social anxiety

- Panic

- Obsessive Compulsive disorder

- Health anxiety

- Low self esteem

- Trauma using CBT or EMDR ( Special interest in Trauma)

Living with a health condition


You will be met with compassion and sensitivity, the therapy process is collaborative one and you form a key part of the solution.

My first session

The first session is the Assessment 

The assessment is 50 minutes and enables an understanding of the problem that is impacting upon your mental health and wellbeing. 

It will allow you to understand the type of treatment that will be offered. You will get an opportunity to ask questions and decide whether you wish to proceed.

Once the assessment is completed you will have a better understanding of the goals that you wish to work on.
