About me and my therapy practice

Hi I’m Helen, an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist. Here is an introduction to me and my approach to therapy. If you would like to find out more, I’d be happy to hear from you. I can offer counselling online or in person.

Life raises all sorts of challenges that bring people to therapy. Perhaps you have been through a significant upheaval in your life or you’re feeling anxious or at a low ebb. Or maybe you just want to understand yourself better. Therapy can help with all of this.

I provide a supportive, confidential space for you to explore your situation, the difficulties you are facing and the experiences or habits that might be holding you back. Greater clarity can lead to positive shifts, including an increased sense of well-being, self-acceptance and confidence in the choices you make.

I believe that effective therapy is a shared effort between client and therapist, rooted in a strong, trusting relationship. As your therapist I will commit

• to listen with an open, curious mind and try to understand you and your experiences as fully as possible

• to share thoughts and observations without trying to influence your thinking or decisions

• to reflect on our work together to ensure that I am doing the best I can for you.

My own experience of therapy has shown me that by getting in touch with ourselves we can learn to live fully in the flow of life, with all that it brings.

Practice description

I am a fully qualified, registered member of the BACP, specialising in humanistic, psychodynamic and existential therapies. My training as an integrative therapist means I can tailor the work according to each client’s individual needs and preferences.

If you are interested in speaking to me about starting therapy, I offer a free 20-minute initial consultation online or by telephone. This provides the opportunity to discuss your situation and hopes for therapy and for you to get a feel for how I work and whether I am the right person for you.

Therapy sessions are 50 minutes long and take place at the same time each week. I can provide short-term contracts or longer, open-ended support, depending on your preferences. I offer online or face-to-face sessions. My fee is £65 per session.

My first session

If you decide to start therapy, we will spend a little bit of time getting to know you and what brings you to therapy. At this stage, I will ask more questions than usual. We can also use this initial meeting to help you feel comfortable in the space and start to build our relationship.

Sessions are always client-led. You decide what you want to talk about. My part is to listen fully and ask open questions to expand our understanding. I also pay attention to how you are finding being in therapy, to support you and help the process along. At the end of each session, we take some time to summarise what we have talked about and where we might start next week.
