About me and my therapy practice

I am a mature counsellor and my hours are flexible. Getting started and choosing a counsellor can be daunting. I offer a safe space, either face to face, online, text or telephone to explore your issues and listen empathetically in a non judgemental respectful manner. This helps build a trusting working relationship.

I use whatever theories and techniques I feel will help the client and tailor my various approaches to each individual accordingly.

;I work in a caring/professional and relational way. I feel it's important to support my clients with life changes and challenges.

You are welcome to telephone me for a brief chat anytime without obligation.

Practice description

I run a small friendly practice.

I have over 15 years experience.

My emphasis is on helping my clients with whatever issues they bring in a warm and nurturing way as possible. Sessions are for one hour and are confidential.

I am an Integrative Counsellor and will use Person Centred counselling to build rapport and to find out what is going on for the client, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (if needed) to gently challenge negative thoughts and beliefs. I also use Psychodynamic to look at childhood and patterns of behaviour. As an aside I might use EMDR for trauma or relaxation techniques.

I have worked in the NHS for over 6 years and have experience of a wide range of issues including bereavement, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, phobias, OCD, relationship issues and I have a special interest in Long Covid.

I am Cruse Bereavement trained and am also trained in Hypnotherapy. I have worked for Tasha Foundation supporting young people by Instant Messaging and Ascenti for 10 years providing counselling for trauma clients and employee Assistance Programs. I offer long and short term therapy.

My first session

The first session will be an assessment whereby I will ask you to fill in an assessment form or ask questions to gather information about you and the issues you would like to work on. I will also send my counselling contract to you by email. This allows the client time to ask any questions or speak to me about anything they are concerned about before therapy is agreed. I will then ask the aims of counselling - what you would like to achieve and what you would like to get out of counselling? Then I will discuss with you the best way forward. We will also discuss frequency of sessions etc.
