About me and my therapy practice

Hello and thank you for viewing my therapy profile.

I offer a caring holistic approach to enable people to resolve their difficulties. I am a BACP  senior accredited counsellor, psychotherapist and supervisor and have been in practice for over 40 years. During that time I have worked with more than 7,000 people both privately and in the NHS.

I am qualified both as a psychotherapist and as a counsellor. Over the years I have had extensive training in many different types of therapy, which I combine with sensitivity and intuition. I am thus able to respect and respond to the varying needs of each person I see, by offering individualised creative ways of working.

I love working as a therapist and feel privileged to be involved in helping people make positive changes in both the way they feel about themselves and in the quality of their lives.

I am able to work with a wide range of concerns some of which are listed below. An additional area my work includes is supporting people with terminal conditions.  This work provides a safe place where people can explore any concerns they have about death and dying including helping them to help to prepare for the end of their lives.

I also offer counselling and supervision to counsellors in training and to qualified practitioners.

My fee for a 1 hour session is £50 and concessions are available for students and others. I am also happy to signpost people to free or low cost services.

If you are interested in having supervision with me please click the Supervisor tab above.

If you would like to discuss the possibility of seeing me, I can be contacted on 07748 574072.

Practice description

The following testimonial comes from a GP, Dr David Whillier, at Woodlands Health Centre, who I worked with throughout my time there.

"Adela Austin worked at Woodlands Health Centre, Paddock Wood, Kent for over 26 years on a part-time basis and left in March 2017. During that period she saw over 2,500 NHS patients for counselling and brief psychotherapy, as well as supervising other counsellors at the practice."

"Adela achieved excellent results with our patients. These results were evidenced through measurement questionaires, as well as client feedback forms. Patients commented on how Adela was able to respond to their needs and help them make significant positive changes in their lives."

"Adela was also always happy to offer professional consultation to other members of the Primary Healthcare team and her knowledge of resources was invaluable to our patients as well as staff."

"I have great respect for Adela's work and highly recommend her as a therapist."

My first session

The first step is to fill out the contact form above my profile.  You are also welcome to call me on 07748 574072.  If  I am not free to answer the phone please leave me a message, or if you prefer you could text or email me.

I need to know if it is ok for me to phone you back, and if so times when you might be avaible for me to call you.

This is so we can have a free phone discussion which can be just for a few minutes or up to half an hour - depending on what you prefer.  From this you can decide if you want to make an initial appointment which will also depend on whether I have availability at a time that works for both of us.

If you are possibly interested in having therapy with me, I will suggest that initially we meet once to establish whether we feel we can work together.

In this introductory session I hope to discover more about you and what you are hoping to gain from therapy.  It will also provide you with a sense of who I am and give you an experience of how I work. Most people find that they take away something of value from this initial session.

If we decide to continue, sessions can then start on a weekly, fortnightly or whatever time period works best basis.

About me and my therapy practice

Hello thank you for viewing my supervision profile.

I am a BACP senior accredited supervisor with over 30 years experience of offering supervision. I am also an approved supervisor on the Personal Centered Pluralistic Training for the Metanoia Institute London.

I would describe the way I work as being holistic, intuitive, relational and collaborative.  I have a wide theoretical approach to supervision.  This is suitable for therapists working from a variety of orientations including pluralistic, integratgive, humanistic, person-centered and transpersonal.

My practice also includes supervision for those working in different professions including hospice staff.  I also offer pastoral supervision to clergy and people of all faiths and none working in pastoral care.

In addition to the above I can provide 1-1 personal and professional development sessions to therapists and others.  These can be ongoing, occasional or as a one off.  They are varied in content and are centered around the individual needs and interests of the person I am with.

I very much enjoy supervising counsellors. Not only do I find it very fulfilling to see counsellors grow and develop their work, but I also often learn a lot from those I supervise.

The most common feedback from people I supervise is that their sessions are very helpful, practical, supportive, reflective, stimulating and enjoyable.

I always suggest that we meet initially at least once, to see if we feel comfortable working together.

My fee for supervision is £50 for a full hour with concessions for students.

Testimonials

"Adela provides a safe and non-judgemental space in which I never feel I need to hold back. She really listens, is creative and is always highly committed in helping me to help my clients. I feel it is a privilege to have Adela as my supervisor." M.C. MBACP (Accred)

"My work is both long term and short term but the majority is brief work with EAP clients. My supervisor Adela balances respecting my autonomy as a therapist with offering guidance when it is needed. I always look forward to supervision which provides a challenging but very supportive environment in which to work. I would have no hesitation in recommending Adela to others." J.T. MBACP (Accred)

"Having qualified 3 years ago I very much value the relationship I have with Adela my supervisor. She works in a collaborative way, and is always very supportive and encouraging.  She has introduced me to different ways of working with my clients. In  our sessions I feel safe and held. This enables me to be totally open and honest, and explore with her any insecurity or vulnerability I may feel regarding my work. This has helped me  build my confidence as a counsellor and resulted in my ability to develop a deeper relational way of being with my clients." L.H. MBACP (Reg)
