About me and my therapy practice

I have been a BACP Accredited therapist since 2011 and worked therapeutically with adults and young people in various settings including NHS, Charity and Further Education. I work with individuals - young people and adults, couples and families. I value systemic practice, exploring issues through the wider context of the systems within which we live - families, work, society. I qualified as a yoga teacher in 2014 and this informs my trauma work with the nervous system, supporting mindfulness and integrating mind and body.  I have experience preparing and facilitating therapy groups; tutorials on mental health issues for students, teachers and support staff; mediation and 1:1 brief and long term therapy. I have been a  Safeguarding Lead and part of a team who manage complex referrals that often required a multi disciplinary team approach including clinical director, play therapist, social worker and school staff. I manage referral assessments and appropriate case allocation. I work closely with external agencies, social services, charities, GP’s to ensure a safe network is in place to support the therapeutic relationship.

Practice description

My therapy room is spacious with an inviting and comfortable feel. It is situated within the centre of town with easy access to parking and public transport. I meet clients at the door front door where entry is via a secure buzzer system.

My first session

Our first session is a meet and greet -an opportunity for you to see whether you feel comfortable working with me and to work out together what might be helpful going forward.  There is also the practicalities in the first session which are part of my assessment process. Confidentiality and contracting ie. time/days/expected length of sessions and risk assessment - protective and exacerbating factors. I use a CORE Outcome questionnaire as a tool to support the assessment process. Confidentiality is an important aspect of a therapeutic relationship and as an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy I abide by their Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions. The only time I would break this confidentiality and disclose personal information to external persons is where there is a risk of harm to self or others or whereby the law requires it. All therapists are also required to undertake supervision of their practice where case details are discussed however identifiable information is kept to a minimum. I am also registered with the ico.
