About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I'm Lorraine.

I'm finding most client find me by 'word of mouth' recommendations and here online. If you want face-to-face sessions locally to Truro I might be the right fit for you but I'm open and available for new clients in the UK and Ireland if your preference is telephone sessions or online video counselling using the Zoom platform. As you can see, I am pretty flexible.

I'm a humanistic counsellor trained in the Person centred approach, BACP registered and with five years’ experience of face-to-face counselling plus two years plus working online and over the telephone during Covid 19.  Its been a challenging time for all of us getting used to the new ways of being. Now it still feels like 'the storm in the teacup' moment with new challenges and learning to live with Covid, new norms along with financial challenges.

I believe counselling offers my clients the opportunity for exploration in an environment of warmth and safety, free from threat, judgement or criticism. I build trusting relationships based in an honest compassionate space.  I will actively help you make sense of the world.

The type of issues I can help you with include (but are not limited to) Depression, Anxiety, Perfectionism, Being assertive, Bereavement, Grief and Loss, Bullying, Burn-out, Communication, Self confidence, Covid 19 Anxiety, Disordered eating, Family problems, Fear, Feeling Lonely, Feeling sad, Infertility, Insecurity, Jealousy, Low self esteem, Miscarriage, Redundancy, Relationships, Retirement, Sleep problems, Stress, Trauma, Workplace stress, Worrying too much.

I have a special interest in adversity and transitions in life, often its the unexpected or the 'anticipated' that holds energy such as grief and loss, unexpected events, cancer and health problems etc. We can explore what makes the situation harder and what can be done to make it better.

(Recently its been more about the opportunity of talking to someone who understands when it feels like there is no-one else.)

One thing for sure, It's essential to find the right person with whom you can start to trust, research (Lamberts Pie) highlights the success of any talking therapy often linked not to the type of therapy but to the therapist and how likely you are to trust the person you work with. This is about the therapeutic relationship and building a strong alliance together. I'm hoping I might be that person.

Who do I work with? I work with people in all stages of counselling, from those who have never tried counselling before to those newly training or searching for a different type of therapy or counsellor.
