About me and my therapy practice

You are reading my profile and may be wondering whether you could work with me. It may be that your problems feel too overwhelming to share with anyone and so choosing a counsellor might feel difficult. I will provide a safe space where you can choose to explore anything, however worrying. I know that coming to counselling can feel like a big step and that it may have taken a long time for you to reach this point. I will work alongside you in thinking about what you need from me to begin this part of your journey.

As a psychodynamic counsellor, I work with an understanding that unconscious connections arise between client and counsellor which are influenced by early experiences. I believe that these connections can bring about a new awareness and understanding of current difficulties particularly with regard to relationships. Everyone is different and my approach will depend on your needs and goals for counselling. I work with clients who require long-term counselling, however shorter term psychodynamic work of around 20 weeks with a specific focus in mind can be very effective. I work with clients who identify themselves in many different ways and with a wide range of problems. Whatever your difficulty, I will work with you as an individual and at a pace that feels manageable for you. I can work with you either in-person or online depending what is most suitable for your needs and situation.

Choosing a counsellor can feel quite daunting so I offer a free 20 minute call, not counselling, but an opportunity for us to get a sense of whether we think we could work together. The next step, should you wish to proceed, would be for us to arrange a 50 minute assessment. Should you decide you would like in-person counselling, appropriate social distancing can be maintained throughout your visit. Free parking is available for 2 hours.
