About me and my therapy practice
I offer a safe and supportive learning environment with sensitive challenge necessary for growth. Working together in such a space, it is my hope that you will bring your positive experiences of working as a counsellor and share the more complex aspects too.
From their book, 'In Love With Supervision' Robin & Joan Shohet;
"We can all feel exposed in supervision. … Many of us have been traumatised by our education system, and perhaps shamed or made to feel inadequate, and can regress into our child behaviour when learning as adults. "
The Seven-Eyed Model, (Hawkins & Shohet) is my preferred model, which works well with most counselling approaches and offers a multi-modal application to client work/ supervision
Creative Arts Supervision Training, London (2010) Seven-Eyed Model
I am also a qualified nurse
Practice description
My style of collegial, respecting my colleagues at all stages of their counselling career. I am flexible to the needs of all my supervisees
Together we can agree how we will work within the BACP framework
My core counsellor training was in Humanistic Integrative: Gestalt, Person Centred, Existential. I have studied other models including TTA, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Transpersonal, CBT and The Psychodynamic Model, all of which inform my practice.
Supervision Testimonial from Jan Vinall, Counsellor & Hypnotherapist
"Roz Henfrey has been my counselling supervisor for quite a few years in fact since I first started. We first got together when I was on placement and finding my feet and continues to the present day and now having my own business.
Roz had the kindness, patience, skills and knowledge to guide me through the early days and this continues today.
I have learnt so much during our supervision and never been made to feel that I was not able at my job even if at times especially in the early days I felt overwhelmed. Roz was the voice of calmness and gave me tools to add to my tool box.
Roz (and I hope she does not mind me writing this) is the most valued tool. Roz shares her knowledge and empathy, this helps me develop my own knowledge and skills further in a safe environment. She helps me to identify my strengths and areas I need to work on.
Feedback given is clear and balanced and specific.
I love working with Roz and value the way we explore different ways of working especially when a session will sit in my head and explore why this is and different ways of looking at it.
Roz has helped me grow and trust my own judgement and intuition and insight. Thank you Roz"
My first session
This is the start of getting to know each other. We will begin to set a working framework for our supervision going forward
I aim to put my supervisee at ease to foster effective supervision
We can mutually agree how we work together within the BACP framework, and I can introduce the Seven-Eyed Model of Supervision
We can then take it from there. There is no obligation. I encourage reviews of our work together, your progress and our relationship
How will we start our subsequent sessions together?
I will ask you how your life has been since we last met.
This is Eye 7 of the model. It allows you to off load anything from your employment, your personal life, anything residual from our previous session and of course your client work, that you wish to discuss or just offload.
This is time for you and it is not counselling.

About me and my therapy practice
Hello I'm Roz and I would like to emphasise that in our sessions we work together. I aim to empower you and anchor you into knowing that You are your own medicine and I will support you with mine.
I have been blessed to have studied with great teachers of counselling therapy. I combine the skills I have learned and develop with this the intuition I have been gifted with and listen to what you say you need, and journey with you there.
Like many of us, I swallowed my truth and didn't express myself when I needed to. My boundaries were ignored and for a long time I did not stand up for myself. This ended, for me, with intense TMD, temporo mandibular disorder as I carried my tension in my jaw. I had physical symptoms such as headaches, earache and stiff neck muscles.
For those of us who have a sedentary lifestyle with much time hunched over a computer, tension can build up with headaches, face and back ache. Most of us need to learn to relax.
Our bodies work in harmony. If we have an emotional problem we can feel sick and dizzy. Remember those ghastly exams or the trip to the GP for a vaccination. Or giving a presentation or meeting with your manager.
If we learn to take charge of our minds, we take charge of our bodies as we become our own medicine.
It can be a deep process of awareness, facing and confronting what brought you to begin holding onto anxiety and tension. It is a beautiful process of self discovery, self healing and self love. This is why I offer ACT, Acceptance and Compassion Therapy. It is an holistic approach combining mind and body to help us heal and continue to find joy in life.
I have been a practising BACP Accredited Counsellor for over 20 years and have a wealth of experience with a wide range of client issues.
I hold a Certificate in Online and Telephone Counselling approved by ACTO which qualifies me to offer therapy remotely
I offer discounts for counselling students in training and people under thirty.
Practice description
I am an accredited member of the BACP and I am included on the BACP Register.
My experience of providing individual therapy to adults in private practice spans over twenty years. This experience includes ADHD and ASD level 1.
My core training is in Humanistic Counselling which includes Person-Centred, Gestalt, and Existential. As appropriate I also use other widely-used techniques such as ACT and CBT.
I have a special interest in Creative Therapies, which blend drawing, poetry/literature, movement and writing into therapy.
Do you have an untold story? I have helped clients in the past make sense of their life by writing their life’s story, and helped them getting it self-published. Clients have felt an enduring sense of achievement from the accomplishment, which has helped them recognise their life’s worth and purpose.
Please view my website for further information about my practice and my debut novel about an autistic psychologist.
I am a Supervisor for other counsellors, which widens my experience of working with, and supporting clients
My first session
My aim is to put you at ease and show you what it could be like working together. This allows you to decide if my approach suits you going forward.
Using a person-centred approach as a basis for our work together, I offer a safe, supportive and non-judgemental environment.
This initial assessment starts the trusting relationship between us which is key to our journey together and provides the strong basis from which you can grow and move on through the therapy.
