Availability
I currently have some availability to take on new clients for short and long time therapy. I generally work Monday to Thursday evenings, with some flexibility. I work full time in a school as a pastoral lead and counsellor, therefore my availability can be slightly limited.
About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Shelley and as a counsellor I am hugely passionate about helping people to navigate difficult periods in their life. It is my aim to offer you a calm and comforting space to access your own wisdom, believing that you are the expert in your life and you will be able to recognise what you need to heal yourself.
Listening in a non-judgemental way, enabling you feel confident to resolve issues and difficult situations whilst feeling supported along your journey.
I work as a person centred therapist, aiming to offer all my clients, warmth and understanding and I feel privileged to be the person to support my clients through difficult times.
I have worked with both adults and children for over 14 years’. I currently work in a school full time as the pastoral lead and counsellor, but also work privately for other schools both primary and secondary.
I work with all my clients to help you to rediscover a sense of wellbeing and peace.
Practice description
My practice is warm, safe and comforting environment, in my home, this space is confidential, allowing you to be open about your issues knowing that you won't be overheard.
I am a person centred counsellor, for someone unsure about the different models of counselling, Person Centred means this approach works to understand an individual’s experience from their perspective.
As your therapist I promise to always positively value you as a person in all aspects of your humanity whilst aiming to be open and genuine. This is vital in helping you to feel accepted, and better able to understand your own feelings. This approach can help you to reconnect with your inner values and sense of self-worth, thus enabling you to find your own way to move forward and progress.
My first session
An initial session is the start of the journey of getting to know each other, building the trust you need to talk about anything you wish to, there is no pressure from me to discuss anything you do not want to.
For many of my clients the decision to start any talking therapy can be overwhelming and a bit daunting, and for a therapist, I too can feel a little apprehensive with each new client I meet, however these feelings do not last long and I can reassure you that after the first few minutes the overwhelming feelings melt away.
I am friendly and down to earth and always try my best to put my clients at ease, I therefore offer all clients who wish to a free telephone consultation to have a chat before they make the decision to start sessions. Any questions or concerns you have can be discussed at this stage.
