About me and my therapy practice

Welcome to my profile and counselling practice.

I'm Faye and I am a qualified therapist based online and in Burford in West Oxfordshire.

I work with people who have experienced childhood trauma and neglect.  Childhood trauma is a wide area and I work with many forms of trauma, including narcissistic parenting, emotional and physical neglect, and child sex abuse. I also work with trauma in adulthood too. I help people understand the impacts of trauma along with how we recover from it.

You may have found my profile if you are finding life very difficult right now. Perhaps you are feeling trapped and everything feels very overwhelming and anxiety provoking. Maybe you are frightened by the thought of your future, or struggling to make sense of your past. Maybe you just don't know how you are feeling.

I can offer you the empathy, emotional support and secure space you need to help you through your struggle and personal exploration.

My work is in depth and focuses on helping you understand yourself and why you feel the way that you do. You will learn about how trauma has affected your life, and how you can move forwards into a healthier way of being.

You may come with a particular focus or during a life crisis. Alternatively, you might want to use our sessions to reflect, explore and deepen your understanding of yourself. My approach to trauma encompasses all reasons to start therapy.

I work both long term and short term with people, and can also offer multiple sessions per week for people who are particularly struggling or are looking for a more intensive therapy experience.

If this is your first time seeking therapy or you are a therapist in training, we might also be a good match.

My personal approach is focused on exploring unconscious patterns of behaviours and emotions that influence our present actions, thoughts and relationships.

I will work alongside you to establish a deeply human and unique relationship that is based on honesty, intimacy and a genuine interest in you.

Practice description

My psychodynamic approach is focused on uncovering and exploring unconscious patterns of behaviours that influence our actions, thoughts and relationships.  I blend this with more trauma specific work and psychoeducation.

I believe that each one of us has a unique identity and my approach is focused on helping you uncover your own identity outside of trauma.  We would explore your past experiences and any significant memories or life events that have happened to you.  We would also work on how to make you feel safer and more secure in the present. My approach involves an exploration of your past alongside an analysis of your present and how we can work to change your future.

I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist (Individual), and was a recent attendee at the international Masters Series trauma conference at the University of Oxford.

I have additional training and certification in:

Working with addiction and compulsive behaviours (including substance addiction and sexual addiction)

Child sex abuse

Self harm and suicidal ideation

Complex PTSD

Autism with The Autistic Advocate

Childhood neglect

Narcissism

Adverse Childhood Experiences and Maltreatment

I have a certificate in Working with Young People, and have workshopped with The Play Zone which uses polyvagal theory to help people learn their optimal performance zone.

I'm undertaking a research based Masters in neuroscience and brain development in 2024.

My first session

I offer a free 20 minute phone consultation to give you an idea of what a first session with me might be like and to help you decide if we would make a good therapy match.

All therapists have their own unique way of working and I would describe my style as explorative and empathetic.  I understand that coming to therapy for the first time is a brave first step and can be quite frightening.  This is why my first session is warm, gentle and containing.  I'm happy to go at your pace and if you feel uncomfortable and panicky, we can sit with this together.

People describe me as someone who encourages thoughtfulness in a kind environment and who is able to contain the most difficult of emotions.
