About me and my therapy practice

I work towards building a supportive and collaborative relationship with clients, creating a space where feelings, thoughts and experiences can safely be explored and processed. I believe the therapeutic process can bring about insight, greater self awareness and emotional growth, enabling individuals to move forwards towards achieving a greater sense of balance, fulfilment and peace in their lives.

I have over 20 years experience, working with a wide range of concerns and in different settings including community counselling & family services, the NHS, and Higher Education. I currently work in private practice and have a specialist interest in working with relationship issues with both individuals and couples.

I have completed trainings in Counselling and Integrative Psychotherapy and also hold post-graduate qualifications in working with couples. My approach is informed by a range of therapeutic models along with contemporary developments in the fields of Psychology and Neuroscience.

Advanced diploma/MA Integrative Psychotherapy (Minster Centre)

Diploma Creative Couplework (Centre for Gender Psychology)

Certificate in Relationship Counselling (Relate)

Diploma/MA Counselling (Reading University)

BA (Hons) Psychology (Open University)

I have also completed trainings in working therapeutically with mindfulness and in Emotionally Focussed couples therapy.

As required by the BACP and UKCP, I am in regular supervision and follow an ongoing programme of continued professional development.

About me and my therapy practice

I bring a warm, flexible and creative approach to my work with individuals and couples and draw upon over 25 years of experience and extensive professional training.

My aim is to develop a supportive and collaborative relationship with clients, a safe space in which experiences may be explored and unhelpful, restrictive patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving identified. My approach is anchored in the understanding that we all have the potential to grow and flourish, if we wish to, both within ourselves and in our relationships with others.

Practice description

I offer both individual and couple relationship therapy from my practice in Shaldon, near Teignmouth.  On-site parking is available.

Both longer-term and short-term focussed therapy is available; we will discuss your hopes, expectations and needs when we meet for the initial consultation. Individual sessions are of 1 hour duration, couples sessions for 60, 75 or 90 minutes, depending on your availability and requirements. Sessions are usually arranged at a regular time on a weekly basis, although there may be some flexibility in these arrangements when required.

My first session

An hour long initial consultation is the first step; this provides the opportunity for us to meet and consider how working together may be helpful for you moving forward. You will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have and also gain as sense of the way I work and the support I may be able to offer.

Research studies have highlighted the significance of the therapeutic relationship in relation to successful outcomes in therapy.
