My first session

Finding someone you feel comfortable talking to

Coming for therapy for the first time is an important step and can be daunting and I believe that the most important thing about coming for therapy, is to find someone who you can talk to and feel that there is the potential for a professional therapeutic relationship to build over time.

What can I expect?

In terms of what to expect during that first session, my aim will be to connect with you and give you the space to relax and share a little of why you got in touch and what you are hoping for from therapy. It is my policy to speak to all new clients briefly on the phone in a phone assessment before coming to see me at the practice for their first session. So, we will have already had an initial conversation and have been in contact. I will have sent you a copy of my welcome letter and agreement, so that you can read more about how I work in my practice before we meet for your first session.

Sometimes people come to therapy because they know they don’t feel right, but are unsure what they want form therapy. This is OK, sometimes what you really need to talk about will emerge in the work as you gain more confidence in attending your therapy.
