About me and my therapy practice
I am a Psychodynamic Therapist qualified to masters level and accredited with twenty five years experience, offering psychotherapy to adults, children, adolescents and families. I offer online sessions and face to face appointments in Giffnock with free parking and good transport links and also video appointments. I feel that anyone can experience distress and find themselves struggling. I offer my services as a space to think together, as a way to try and make sense of the emotions and to better manage some of the feelings.
The aim of therapy in my mind is often to try and make peace with our pasts, to make sense of our early experiences in order to live fully and authentically in the present. I explore the place of the problem in relation to the past as well as present, in a relational approach, that means we enter into a joint exploration of the issue. I work with a variety of issues and divide my time between clinics for the NHS & social work and private practice. Some of my practice is spent offering therapy to parents struggling with their child’s behaviour or with the challenges of adolescence.
I am fully qualified with a Masters in Psychoanalytic Therapeutic work with Children and Young People with Human Development Scotland and The University of Strathclyde. I have a Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling and Therapy with Manor House Centre for Psychotherapy, London and I have also completed levels 1 & 2 of Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy.
I am a full member of APPCIOS and a mentor for psychodynamic therapists in this organisation. I am also a consultant for organisations who want to use psychodynamic thinking to explore institutional dynamics. I am an associate member of the charity Trapeze Psychology which provides a platform for partnership working between psychologists and other therapists, community groups and the voluntary and statutory sectors.
My practice is relational in essence which means that the therapeutic relationship itself is part of the process of healing. We can learn through the live relationship in the room and through reflection on the unconscious aspects of the relationship.
I work in a collaboratively explorative way with a clearly defined set of goals. We measure our progress against these goals and set a course.
I do think it’s important to get a good fit with your therapist so feel free to come and meet me for an initial exploration of the issue and see how it feels to talk. Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org, call or text 0770 2265471. I am happy to talk through your enquiry first over the phone.
My first session
You can start by having an initial chat over the phone or video, to see how it might feel to work together. Alternatively you can go ahead and book a consultation after just emailing me.
A consultation can take one session or more sometimes, and it is important we take however long we need as it is where we set out the job of work to be done and decide if we think it is achievable.
We will need to consider...
What is the problem?
What do we think has caused this problem?
What do you want to achieve or change?
Can this kind of therapy help?
If yes, then we set a treatment plan.
This process helps us to produce a map that we can take which means we both have an understanding of the problem and an idea of what it is that has caused the problem and what it is that needs to be done to resolve the issue and for you to feel better and heal.
