About me and my therapy practice

Whether you are looking for Individual Counselling or Couples Counselling, I want to support you to feel empowered and validated and to deepen your self-awareness. I hope to help you to identify any desire to change those things that are troubling you and help you to achieve that change by exploring your concerns and helping you to build positive coping skills.

I am an integrative Counsellor, trained in a variety of theoretical approaches including Person Centred, Psychodynamic, Transactional Analysis and CBT and I draw on these depending on best fit for you and your needs. I have experience of counselling face to face, online and by telephone.

Counselling provides a time and space for you to explore why and how issues you have experienced in the past are now affecting you. I offer you a non- judgemental space where you can verbalise those things you find it difficult to talk about and I will help you to find new ways of dealing with those emotions so that they don’t continue to impact your life in a negative way.

As an integrative counsellor, I have experience of working with clients with a variety of issues including anxiety, panic attacks, depression, bereavement, loss (in its many forms, including redundancy, the breakdown of a relationship and empty nest syndrome), relationship issues, stress, and low self-esteem and lack of confidence.

We can meet face to face, by Zoom or Teams or by telephone. Some clients like to work with a combination of these methods, depending on their lifestyle.

Practice description

I see clients who are experiencing many different challenges, including:

Depression. Depression is a common mental health condition that can cause a variety of symptoms, including sadness, hopelessness, fatigue, and changes in appetite or sleep patterns. Counselling can help people with depression manage their symptoms and improve their quality of life.

Anxiety. Anxiety is a normal human emotion, but it can become a problem when it is excessive or interferes with daily life. Counselling can help people with anxiety learn how to manage their anxiety and live a more fulfilling life.

Stress. Stress is a normal part of life, but it can become overwhelming when it is chronic. Counselling can help people learn how to manage stress and cope with difficult life events.

Trauma. Trauma is a deeply distressing or disturbing experience that can have a lasting impact on a person's life. Counselling can help people who have experienced trauma heal from their experiences.

Life changes. Life changes, such as the death of a loved one, a job loss, or a divorce, can be very difficult to cope with. Counselling can help people adjust to their new circumstances and find ways to move forward.

Relationship problems. Couples often consider relationship counselling when communication has broken down. Resentments may have built up and separation may feel inevitable. An experienced Couples Counsellor can help you both to communicate your perspective and bring the resentments into the open so they can be resolved. Improved communication can help to re-create your connection with your partner and in turn will bring greater intimacy in your relationship. If one partner has been unfaithful, it can be very difficult for the other partner to forgive them and it can be a devastating blow to a relationship. Parenting issues can be challenging, particularly in blended families. Couples counselling can help couples cope with these changes and come out stronger on the other side.

My first session

A good relationship between client and therapist is paramount to successful therapy. You should feel safe to explore your issues in the knowledge that your therapist will treat you with respect and maintain confidentiality.

I hope you will find I am warm and genuine. I want you to feel you can be open and honest with me. Our first session is a chance for me to introduce myself and for us to see if we feel we can work together. There is no obligation to continue further sessions with me.

We would agree terms to work together and I may ask for a brief history so I can get an idea of your circumstances. I might ask you about any previous experience you may have had of counselling and ask what your goals are for therapy. After this introduction I would invite you to tell me in more detail what your concerns are.

If we decide to work together, we will have regular sessions – usually weekly. I will check in with you at intervals throughout your therapy to review our work and ensure we are making progress a pace that suits you. The focus is always on you.
