About me and my therapy practice

Therapy is very much an exploration and a journey that we make together. It is not about me being an expert, or giving you advice, but rather providing a safe space where you can reflect on what is going on for you and together we can look at things you would like to explore or change. I am an experienced counselling psychologist who offers you a space that is confidential and supportive, where you can talk about any aspects of your life that are troubling you. I work with difficulties like anxiety, panic attacks, stress, feeling emotionally overwhelmed, low mood, depression, grieving, workplace problems, trauma, family difficulties and relationships difficulties. You might have past or present experiences affecting you, or you might feel confused in knowing what the problem might be.

I offer an initial conversation without charge, for you to meet with me and see if you feel further meeting would be useful for you.

I also offer supervision to qualified counsellors and facilitate reflective practice groups for counsellors, counselling psychologists and psychotherapists.

Practice description

I am trained as a Counselling Psychologist and I am also an accredited Cognitive Analytic Therapy practitioner and hold a Diploma in Trauma Therapy. I have further training in Supervision, Stress Management, Mindfulness and Online Counselling.

I began my counselling career over 25 years ago. I have worked in GP surgeries and primary care, in the Psychotherapy department of a large teaching hospital, and have been offering counselling to adults in an organisational context for the past sixteen years. I have considerable experience in working with young adults aged between 18 and 40 years. Most recently I have worked with an organisation that offers free therapy to frontline workers in the NHS, and in private practice

I have worked using a brief model of therapy, offering 6 to 12 sessions in the first instance, and then continuing in line with your need. We review our work as we go and decide together how long it might be helpful for us to meet. That might be a few weeks, a few months or longer. I have also worked using the CAT (Cognitive Analytic Therapy) model of 16 sessions.

My first session

I offer an initial consultation of 30 minutes.  This is to enable us to mutually understand what you are seeking from therapy and to decide if working with me would be most suitable for you. There is no charge for this consultation. If we decide it would be helpful for you, we will agree a regular time for ongoing sessions which are 50 minutes. I  will ask you to complete pre-therapy documentation which is a short questionnaire and a client-therapist agreement.
