About me and my therapy practice
Hello - people seek counselling in times of distress, perhaps when they find themselves having difficulty in forming meaningful relationships, experiencing anxiety, stress or depression or having suffered a loss. Some people may have experienced trauma, suffer with low self esteem or poor self confidence leaving them feeling unworthy of being loved. The reasons for some of these struggles are often deeply buried in our memory, counselling can help to safely explore these deep rooted memories and help provide us with an explanation of how our early experiences can impact on our current lives. This exploration can help us to have a greater understanding of ourselves, which will help us to deal with life events in a more positive way. Whatever the presenting issue is, I am here to listen and to help you move forward towards a more positive future.
My counselling philosophy is informed by Person-Centred Theory along with characteristics from the Psychodynamic approach. However, although it is vitally important that I have a good understanding of theory to inform my thinking, I strongly believe that the most important element of counselling is the therapeutic relationship that forms between client and counsellor. To encourage this, my aim is to offer you, the client, an experience of a therapeutic relationship that is empathic, warm, genuine and non-judgemental, allowing you to explore your concerns at your own pace in a way that will help facilitate change from a place of distress to a place of comfort. Along with this, having someone to talk to who is not directly involved in your life can allow you to express these inner thoughts and emotions and perhaps offer a different perspective to your own lived experience.
