About me and my therapy practice
Time with a therapist is a great opportunity for us to re-evaluate our lives, our values and our beliefs; so we can feel freer and happier.
My work is underpinned by the belief that we develop a better understanding of ourselves and, by doing so, change the values and priorities we use to guide our lives.
I base my approach to counselling not just on my training, but much more broadly on my personal and professional experience of life.
Many of us are experiencing increasing pressure, in our complex world, to to fit in, achieve and be happy. Sometimes this pressure can feel overwhelming and we can feel confused, anxious and unsure. This can lead to difficulties in our relationships, with our families and at work.
So for me, this forms a major challenge for me in my role as a counsellor. We can start to understand where this pressure comes from and what we can do about it. This process creates a life-changing opportunity to develop new perspectives and build greater self-awareness, self-fulfilment and meaningful purpose to life.
I have worked in the care professions for over 30 years, including the delivery of support services in the areas of homelessness, rehabilitation of ex-offenders, alcohol and drugs, mental health and learning disabilities.
More recently I have worked as a qualified and accredited family mediator, and been involved in the development of support services to carers. This has given me a broad spectrum of experience working with people from all backgrounds and I have always found my work stimulating and rewarding.
I am approachable and develop comfortable and trusting relationships easily with people. I am flexible and non-judgemental in my approach and can establish rapport quickly and effectively with my clients. I have a professional interest in supporting people through change and to achieve higher levels of well-being.
I really enjoy face to face work and believe it is a great privilege to be able to support people to make change. I understand that for my clients to work openly and honestly with me may involve them disclosing personal experiences that may painful, embarrassing or distressing. My clients will always receive my full commitment and respect. Feedback from my clients has always been really positive.
