About me and my therapy practice

I have worked as a Counsellor for 25 years.I offer a warm, genuine and respectful relationship . I provide a safe space, where you will be listened to very carefully and accepted without judgement.  Counselling can help you  find new answers to the thoughts and feelings which trouble you. You may be holding  critical beliefs about yourself. These may be stopping you from moving forwards .  You may need to talk about past events, in order to see a different future.Perhaps you have suffered a loss. I can work with long-standing issues and/or a current situation.I am committed to working with Diversity, open to each individual from within their own context, which will differ from mine. I offer some concessions in line with your income/circumstances. I work from a light-filled room in the centre of Hebden Bridge. There is ample parking.

You are welcome to phone me without fee or obligation and/or contact me by email for further information.

EXPERIENCE

Alongside my private work, I have worked with children  with Special Learning Needs in schools. I have also worked in the community  with young adults with learning needs.

I have  worked for several years  as a volunteer Counsellor at a Womens' Mental Health agency. I worked with a group of very diverse women, focussing mainly on Abuse and Trauma.

I am on the Leeds Beckett Network of approved Therapists for trainees.

TRAINING AND SKILLS

I have postgraduate training in Psychodynamic Therapy and Person Centred Counselling. I have come to realise though, that it is the Relationship between Counsellor and Client, which creates change.

About me and my therapy practice

I am an experienced and caring Practitioner ,having worked for 25 years as a Counsellor in Private Practice. I have been offering Supervision for the last 4 years.

I have also worked in schools  with   children with special learning needs. This has given me  a strong interest in creating empathic relationships with people who experience the world differently. I have worked for several years as a  volunteer at  a Womens' Mental Health Agency. This involved counselling a very diverse group of women, on experiences relating to Trauma and Abuse.

I have Postgraduate Training in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and in Person Centred  Counselling . I also work existentially with the Body as a means of Expression. However, I believe that it is the quality of the Counselling Relationship, rather than the modality, which creates Change.

I provide a warm and genuine relationship in order to support people in their work. From within a context of safety and trust, it   becomes possible to explore  new ways of relating to the unique story which each client tells.

I work according to the BACP Code Of Ethics in order to promote safe, ethical practice in the interests of practitioner and client.

I am very committed to continuing my own professional development, by reading up to date research and attending CPD courses.

I have experience of a  broad range of issues. I have a particular working interest in :

Abuse and Trauma.

Attachment and Loss.

Intersubjectivity.

'Disability.'

Diversity.

Meanings in the context of Asylum and Migration.

I charge  40.00  for a one hour session and £45.00 for one and a half hours.
