About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I’m Kath and I’m a qualified person-centred counsellor. Basically that means I will offer you a welcoming space where you can take some time to explore whatever it is that’s brought you to the point of looking for a counsellor – or anything else that crops up along the way. My role is to listen to you and to help you hear what’s going on inside you more clearly; to provide a place where you are accepted as you are; and to be someone not connected to your day-to-day life to explore alongside you.

Counselling isn’t just for moments of crisis, when life can feel difficult or overwhelming. It can also be for times when we feel generally ok - taking time to take stock of what’s going on in you and your life; or for exploring that niggle we sometimes get that something isn’t quite what we’d like it to be, even if we don’t know exactly what it is. Sometimes people come to counselling wanting to be told how to “fix” themselves. It’s important for you to know that I don’t have those answers for you, but I will do my best to help you find your own way through in a supportive, judgement-free environment.

I hope this information is helpful to you in your decision making. If you have any questions, please get in touch and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Practice description

There's a list of categories below giving some ideas of the areas I work with. I don't believe that people fall neatly into tick box descriptions and am aware that what we thought we are seeking help with might turn out to be something else entirely. I'm very happy to discuss with you what it is you feel you would like support with, and whether I am able to provide that support.

Currently I only offer counselling on the phone or online via Zoom. You can decide which would suit you best, however it’s important to note that you will need a quiet space, where you’re unlikely to be overheard or distracted during our meetings. If you do decide to work with me, I offer 50 minute sessions on short term or long term basis as suits your needs, and have some flexibility in the times I can offer.

My first session

One of the most important things in counselling is finding someone you feel comfortable enough to share your experiences with. It’s like any relationship – we don’t get along with everyone we meet, so it’s important to take some time to find out whether I (or any other counsellor) might be a good person to work with for you. To help you with that I offer an initial 30 minute phone conversation or online session free of charge. This won't be a counselling session, but an opportunity for us to meet, for you to ask any questions you may have, and to help you decide whether you would like to work with me in further sessions.
