Short-term Counselling /long-term Psychotherapy
My first session
Your first session or assessment session is a one-off session – it is a chance for 'us' to get to know each other and for you to decide if working together feels comfortable and supportive. Often, a good way to ascertain this is if you leave the session feeling lighter, perhaps happier and more understood.
During the first session:
It is a space to tell me what is going on for you and to talk about any issue/concerns you may have. I often take brief notes (for record purposes) and I explain what Counselling is and how I can be of support. There is plenty of opportunity for you to find out more - you might feel it a good time to ask me any questions you have perhaps about my practices or strategies. You may want to ask me about something you have heard or read about on social media regarding Counselling. Perhaps you are finding life hard now and want some extra support but don't know how or what to do.
If you feel Counselling and/or me are not the right 'fit' there is no obligation to continue at all. I often suggest to new clients to book several assessment sessions with differing Counsellors for this very reason - one will inevitably stand out as 'feeling more engaged, present' than others. I look forward to welcoming you for your first session.
Please email me to arrange a suitable date/time. Once booked I send an email with what to expect, information and further details.
Best Wishes and stay safe
Debbie
