About me and my therapy practice

There are times in our lives when we hit a bump in the road, whether ourselves or in our relationships. It may be due to a current situation or event, or perhaps it relates to trauma in childhood or earlier life that is still causing problems.

Whether it's depression, anxiety, stress, irritability, overwhelmed, or not feeling anything - completely numb. It can feel lonely and scary. Unable to share your feelings or thoughts with those close to you.

That's where I can offer help and support, without judgment, and in total confidence. A place to explore what is bothering you.

Practice description

I initially trained in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy, qualifying in 2005,  which means in simple terms I have a bigger toolbox with which I can adapt to you - the client - in what you need, and at your pace.

As an experienced and BACP Accredited therapist, I work within their Ethical Framework.

Updating my skills and knowledge is ongoing, and important, as there is always something new to learn, and that is reflected in the specialist areas I support clients with, being Trauma and Relationship issues.

During the 5 years as a volunteer counsellor at RASASC I worked with survivors of rape or childhood sexual abuse and received specialist training in the effects of child abuse, and how traumas from our past can continue to have an adverse effect on our adult lives and relationships.  Whether it's related to trust, experiencing debilitating panic attacks, relationships, depression, anxiety, eating problems.

IT'S  IMPORTANT THAT YOU DON'T SHARE YOUR TRAUMATIC EXPERIENCE

Unless you want to. Talking about it may retraumatise you, adding to your distress, and if you do choose to share the experience, I ensure you are safe, and that you are able to emotionally support yourself.

Because I realised the damage our past negative experiences can affect our current relationship I decided to undertake further training in working with couples, helping them to work through the problems that stop them from having the relationship they want.

My first session

I believe the therapeutic relationship between therapist and client is really important for you to feel comfortable to share things you may have never shared with anyone else.

That's the reason I offer a free 30-minute telephone call with me.

Where you can ask any questions and get to know me a bit better, as well as making sure I am the right person to help you.

If we each decide I am not the right person to help you, I will guide you to find someone more suitable.

Should we decide to work together, we can arrange further sessions. I can usually accommodate shift working patterns and childcare, because like isn't always that simple.
