About me and my therapy practice

This may be the first time you have considered counselling and understandably you may be wondering if and how I may be able to help you. It may be that you have recently suffered a crisis in your life such as a bereavement or a relationship breakdown or you may be going through a particular life transition (retirement, a new job, beginning family life or children leaving home for example). It may be that you have been struggling with something such as generalised anxiety, panic, depression, anger, lack of confidence, the effects of a difficult childhood, a trauma or addiction for a long time and it just seems the right time to resolve these issues. Sometimes the problem can be hard to define but you have a sense that something is not right or you might want to find a way to live a happier and more fulfilled life.

I work in an integrative way which means that I draw upon ideas from a number of different theoretical backgrounds. It maybe that you simply need a space where you can explore how you are thinking and feeling or it may be that CBT might help you identify and modify unhelpful thoughts and beliefs or you may recognise that you you keep repeating certain patterns of behaviour that you would like to change. I have a particular interest in trauma and have just completed a training course with Babette Rothschild, a 'leader in this field. A trauma could be a single incident such as an accident or it could be accumulative as in the case of a traumatic childhood. Stabilisation techniques and Mindfulness can be really helpful in enabling people to feel more in control of, what in some cases can be overwhelming feelings.

Practice description

I work in a dedicated therapy room which is situated 10 minutes walk from Ware high street/train station.

I have had the privelige of working with a wide variety of people from a range of backgrounds and with a variety of issues. If you’re unsure if I may be able to help you please telephone me for a free initial telephone conversation to discuss what you are looking for any any initial concerns you may have

My first session

If you are wondering if I may be able to help you please email or call me in the first instance. I offer a free telephone consultation where we can briefly discuss what you need at the moment and to discuss any concerns you may have. Hearing someone’s voice often gives you a good idea if you feel comfortable with that person and if you could work with them.

Thereafter, I would invite you to book an initial session at a mutually convenient time. This would give you an opportunity to discuss in some detail what you are looking for at present and help us both decide how we could work together. You are under no obligation to continue but if you do so I would normally see you weekly.

About me and my therapy practice

I have been working with clients for some 20 years. Although my initial training was a dual theory course (psychodynamic and client centred), I am always open to different ways of working and welcome enquiries form supervisees from a range of theoretical backgrounds where the therapeutic relationship is considered of paramount importance. I have been particularly influenced by a number of recent trainings in the trauma field which prioritises safety in the therapeutic relationship as a first step to processing traumatic memories

My main experience has been working with individual adults although I do have some experience of working with older teenagers (16+). I currently work in private practice but have experience of working in the voluntary sector including specialised addiction agencies and the NHS having worked in GP surgeries for a number of years.

I have worked with individual supervisees as well as running a supervision group for an agency dealing with addictions. My aim is to provide both a supportive and challenging environment where I hope that supervisees will feel safe enough to bring any feelings, thoughts and concerns they may have about the therapeutic process and will feel sufficiently empowered to try new things as and when appropriate.

I welcome enquiries from both qualified and trainee counsellors. If you have colleagues who are interested in reducing the cost of supervision and are interested in setting up a group please contact me for details.

I completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Supervision at the Albany Centre, St. Albans in 2018

Practice description

I work from a dedicated office space in Ware just 10 minutes walk from the high street and train station.

I am currently offering video and telephone supervision with a view to returning to face to face work as soon as it is safe to do so.

My first session

If you are wondering if you would like to work with me as your supervisor I would suggest that you phone me for an initial free consultation so we can discuss what you are looking for and to discuss how we work together. Thereafter, an initial session is often the best way of discovering how we can work together and if you feel I am the right supervisor for you. You are under no obligation to continue.

I look forward to hearing from you
