About me and my therapy practice

Jamie is a BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor with twenty years experience counselling within Health, Social Care and Workplace settings. He has a warm, non-judgemental and encouraging style and creates a space in which clients can receive emotional support, learn new coping strategies and restore their capacity to lead an active and enjoyable life.

Jamie's integrative approach incorporates established counselling models such as CBT and Solution Focussed Brief Therapy, along with newer models such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Compassion Focussed Therapy. His practice is also informed by findings from neuroscience research, Positive Psychology and Wisdom wherever it may be found including Buddhism and Taoism.

Jamie believes in adapting his approach to meet the differing needs of each unique client. Some clients make good progress within 6 sessions, others may need up to 12. Sessions do not have to be held weekly - and this can help to make counselling more affordable. Sessions are currently available on Mondays (daytime and evening) are held in a comfortable Therapy Centre (with free on street parking) located in the Waterloo Gardens area of Roath (near the Waterloo Tea House).

About me and my therapy practice

I am an experienced Counsellor and Counselling Supervisor with a warm, respectful style who has worked for over twenty years as a therapist in Health, Social Services, and Voluntary Settings. I currently work as an employee counsellor with Cardiff Council and have an independent counselling & supervision practice.

I have the following qualifications: B.A. Psychology (1st Class), University of Wales, Cardiff 1994,  Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling, University of Bristol 1997 and Post Graduate Diploma in Consultative Supervision, University of Wales, Newport 2013.

At its best, Supervision can be an oasis of contemplation and creativity where you can reconnect with your guiding values, theory, and strengths and emerge refreshed with new ideas and insights to take back to your work. For this to happen it is vital to create a supervision space in which supervisees feel safe to share doubts, difficulties and successes in relation to their work. This is achieved through clear contracting; a non-judgemental attitude in which “mistakes” are seen as opportunities for development, and the maintenance of a respectful, collaborative supervisory relationship.

Fees: 1 hr £50, 1.5 hrs £70.
