About me and my therapy practice
Experienced & qualified psychotherapist (therapist) with an international and multicultural background, working in private practice in Harley Street, London. One of the aims is to provide high quality individually tailored therapy to my clients.
ABOUT YOU AND THERAPY
I understand it's not easy to choose a therapist, and taking the time to search for a suitable match is essential. My practice offers you a comforting, safe and confidential place to be.
All clients are different when seeking help, some are looking for a therapist to be with them whilst going through current life events, others deal with lots of issues that can be pretty cluttered, not knowing where to start, including events of the past, and yet others are just looking for a few sessions to vent or seek clarity on a specific issue that’s on their mind.
As a trained therapist, I offer both long and short-term counselling to suit individual needs and regardless of your background, you are welcome to contact me.
Throughout my career, I have been lucky to gain a wealth of experience supporting people from various walks of life, be it anxiety, depression, loss, relationship difficulties, domestic violence, abuse, addictions, self-esteem issues and coping with significant life changes- to name a few.
I have worked with clients going through a major transition period in life, such as divorce, post-divorce, identity crisis, suicidal thoughts. Clients often tell me they find it easy to open up and speak with me and make therapy an empowering, enjoyable and insightful experience for them. I place a lot of emphasis on getting to know my clients and giving them space and time they need to explore, understand, be silent, express and most of all, be heard.
SPECIALISED SERVICE: INTERCULTURAL PSYCHOTHERAPY
I also offer Intercultural psychotherapy as a specialised service, which is especially beneficial amongst culturally diverse and international individuals.
How does Intercultural psychotherapy differ from usual psychotherapy?
Clients will typically discuss the same issues in both types of therapies (mainstream and intercultural). However, culturally diverse and international clients will also discuss some additional problems concerning their cultural identity in Intercultural psychotherapy.
Intercultural psychotherapy also recognises the differences and similarities of various aspects of culture between the client and therapist. Culturally and internationally diverse clients often seek to connect with their therapist on a cultural level to enable a deeper level of communication and understanding. It can allow a more effective therapeutic experience for culturally diverse individuals.
Which additional issues do culturally diverse individuals discuss in Intercultural Psychotherapy?
Culturally diverse clients often bring up the following issues in sessions: cultural identity, identity crisis, the effects of multicultural and multilingual upbringing, coping with bi-racial identity, loss of mother tongue and mother tongue biases, belonging, language usage, racism, race & ethnicity, mixed-race upbringing, hybrid identity, isolation, confusion about identity, which cultural values to adhere to (host vs own culture)
My first session
YOUR FIRST SESSION WITH ME
Before you start with your first session, we will have had a chat by telephone to find out more about your reasons for therapy and whether I will be the right help for you.
If we both agree to work together, we will then plan your first session to start your therapy. We will then arrange to see each other regularly, mostly weekly, at the same time and day of the week (there is flexibility).
All sessions last 50 minutes and start promptly. Due to Covid, the sessions are online through Zoom (video call) or telephone, whatever you find comfortable.
Therapy is a space where you can take all your time to talk, think, feel and be without being judged and supported at the same time.
