About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified integrative therapist working with children, young people, adults, and couples.
Making the decision to access therapy can be a daunting one. I aim to offer a space for you to consider your own story, share your narrative and ultimately find out more about yourselves in the presence of a emotionally available other. I hold a non-judgemental and open-hearted approach to what every client brings. The focus is on building a strong trusting therapeutic relationship, from which to support each person to consider what feels most important to them.
*Due to Covid-19 restrictions, I am currently in offering therapy virtually for both adult and child clients. I am to resume face-to-face therapy in September 2020
I offer both short and long term therapy which can be open end if preferred. I usually see individual clients/children weekly for 50 minutes and couples every two weeks for 80 minutes. I am flexible in my approach and can adapt this to suit clients needs.
ONE-TO-ONE ADULT THERAPY
I offer an integrative approach to working with adults and my model is informed by a range of theories. These include person-centred therapy, attachment, neuroscience, body psychotherapy, and psychodynamic psychotherapy which looks at the unconscious. While I do offer the use of arts as part of the therapy, people may choose not to take this up. I provide a safe container for people to explore and be curious about themselves. I aim to work alongside clients to help them gain self-acceptance and hope, whilst also being with them through painful and difficult moments.
COUPLE & RELATIONSHIP THERAPY
I hold the belief that wounding often happens in the process of a relationship, be that an inter-family relationship or romantic involvement. This often means that who we are attracted to romantically, mirrors our early life experiences. I offer couple and relationship therapy as a tool to fine-tune communication skills and to help each partner understand the other’s underlying needs. Love is an art, not a science, whether you have been together for 5 months or 50 years, spending quality time working on the substance of your relationship is a courageous step towards a joyful connection. I also work with people in other types of relationships such as GSRD, siblings, families, business partnerships, or teams of people working to resolve something.
CHILDREN & YOUNG PEOPLE’S ART & PLAY THERAPY
I work with children from 3 years upwards in a play and art-centred way. I aim to facilitate their own understanding of their inner world, through a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental relationship. I am a strong believer that early intervention can make a difference in a child’s life and lead the way to good mental health. Through one-to-one therapy, children and young people can explore play resources and art materials, with an emotionally available adult alongside them. Some teenagers may also prefer to use talking therapy instead of the arts. I work with children and young people to process traumatic events such as bereavement, family separations, or those who have experienced abuse and neglect. During therapy sessions clients have the space to be curious about their feelings and experiences; with young children, this is often through the metaphor. I offer a private practice for children and young people and I also work in schools
